Snowden could of done all of this anonymously ala “Deep Throat”. He outed himself for the 15 minutes of fame.

John Bolton? John Bolton said this? So, if you work for the government and you see illegal things happening, things against the US Constitution, your oath compels you to keep quiet? On the contrary.

If this guy is made out to be a criminal, a traitor, we're in big trouble because it tells everybody in the future that exposing illegal government activities is suicide.

john bolton has NOT BEEN SILENT. He has been ripping Obama all along. And I am not sure that this guy is a hero at this point. So am I a former conservative?

Some will think he’s a hero and some will think he’s a traitor, just like they did with Julius and Ethel Rosenberg.

This literally shocks me regarding Bolton.

This is about 180 degree opposite what I would think his opinion would be.

His is a severely flawed take on this subject IMO.

I’m sure Hitler thought Dietrich Bonhoeffer was guilty of treason, too.

Sometimes obedience to God and His law is more important than loyalty to a State.

“Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.”
Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Did Snowden really tell us anything we didn’t already know?

I don’t know what he is but I know this his oath is to the Constitution not to a government. If Obama is spyingon American citizens absent probable cause this violates the Constitution and these guys are duty bound to make it public. If Obama was killing American citizens who were wanted for nothing would the reporter be guilty of treason for reporting it?

Ah, wait a minute....

Ubama is a traitor also.

Why doesn't John go after Ubama?

I think Bolton has gone after Obama numerous times for his lies and deceit. But just because Obama lies doesn't make Snowden's lies "not lies."

If we are to have any moral integrity, we have to call it as it is. Dismissing Snowden's breaking of his oath is no better than the hypocrisy of the Left.

Perhaps there were extenuating circumstances that would explain this leak, just like the taking of a life is justifiable in self defense or in a declared war. That is what we need to discover and defend. Otherwise, Bradley Manning's criminal case should be dismissed as well.

Bolton’s logic is flawed. He says he mistrusts Obama, but no one is snooping on you without a warrant. If that was the case the president should be impeached.

“This guy thinks he has a higher morality, that he can see clearer than other 299-million 999-thousand 999 of us...”

Well, I can’t speak for everyone else but make that 299-million, 999-thousand, 998 of us, because I wasn’t permitted to see this widespread monitoring of US citizens in order to make a moral judgment. It was a secret kept from the very people who are being monitored. Given what little I DO know based on these leaks—that the US government routinely collects vast amounts of information on US citizens without a warrant based on probable cause and specifically stating what will be searched and collected, I think Snowden is a hero! The 4th Amendment clearly does NOT permit wide scale and indiscriminate data mining!

"Did Snowden really tell us anything we didn’t already know?"

Certainly the scale of the behavior. Previously people who raised the possibilitly were called kooks and conspiricy nuts.

I think he outed himself in hopes to live another day. It is more difficult to off him or to target his family if he is known.

I saw Bolton on Fox yesterday and was so appalled by him that I now consider him to be a “formerly solid” conservative.

This is an example of the major "Strange Bedfellows" effect we are now seeing here on FR and in the news in general.

Good Guys have morphed into Bad Guys and vice versa. Bolton is one of the former and, of all people, Michael Moore is now one of the Good Guys who supports Snowden. But then so is Glen Beck.

As a general rule I think we can see that the Libertarian branch of FR generally supports Snowden. The Strong National Defense branch doesn't. And on the Left, the Obamabots are against Snowden while the "We Don't Need No Stinking National Defense" arm of the Left support him.

What to make of this?

We live in very, very interesting times. I don't know what to make of it.

This is the first time I ever disagree with bolton.

Here I believe he is guilty of temporary insanity.

Treason is Constitutionally elected officials disregarding the Document they took an oath to uphold. The Fourth Amendment protects the citizens from undo search and seizure. Bolton needs to correct his course and hang the whistle-blow-ees instead of the whistle-blow-er.

Dismissing Snowden's breaking of his oath is no better than the hypocrisy of the Left.

The need for Snowden to break his oath was caused by the fact that Obama never took his seriously.
