I have no experience with Big Philanthropy/Big Charity, but my impression is that all of them, religious and secular, government and NGO, try to coordinate and network with each other to get maximum efficiency. Naturally. You don't want fourteen organizations each bringing a ton of malaria netting to Mozambique when nobody's bringing anything to Guinea. Or whatever.

...but along with that, they all do outsourcing, joint projects, flow-through funding, interlocking boards, subcontracting, shared teachers and training materials, co-sponsorship, longterm strategic planning, etc. --- it's messy --- worse than messy, it's corrupting--- for an organization like CRS which really does have to keep its distinctive Catholic identity.

The Catholic component is never going to be big and powerful enough to "control" the various networks and coalitions. So I don't see any solutions anytime soon, unless they pull out of coalitions altogether.
