Sarah Palin was being optimistic when she warned us about death panels.

There’s a chance that a panel will have at least one or two humane individuals on it; but if everything’s going to be left to the tender mercies of a single bureaucratic tyrant like Kathleen Sebelius, we’re in much more serious trouble than we feared.

They are now reporting 12 hours for her surgery. The adult lungs can be sized to fit. The parents just wanted to be on the list so she had that chance since modern medicine can re-size adult lungs for these little children. They are saying if she makes it, she will live a good life. Blessings to the family that lost a loved one. Now, I have to go cry...

B. The fact that a federal judge had to intervene in an establish process of prioritizing organs made available for process means that some other person was moved down the list and will likely die as a result of the judge’s decision.

No, the judge just allowed children below the arbitrary cut-off age to be included in the prioritization process. When that happened, the critical condition of the girl brought her to the top of the list.

It seems that God has smiled on his young lady. He will not do the same to Sibelius!

Who? A 45 year old smoker?

Who knows?

21-yr old iron-man tri-athlete?

Point is, medical priority should be decided by doctors, not influenced by media or political pressure, and in this case, I think for reasons previously stated, she was pushed to the head of the line.

I can't say that as fact this was the case, but you can't say as fact it wasn't the case.

Isn’t it a little hard to imagine that a patient found eligible to be on the adult recipients’ list only a week ago is in surgery today without a big bump to the top? It seems to defy everything we know about transplant wait lists.

They may have placed her where she would have been had she been enlisted on both the pediatric and adult lists when originally found eligible. I imagine the entire process will have to be reconfigured in light of both the medical advance that allow a child to receive an adult lung and the judicial ruling.

On that point, I agree with you completely.

You have no idea how transplant listing works but you still want to insinuate & speculate. Get a clue.

You really should just shush your yap

According to that rationale, she got put on the adult list just last week. Since she got the transplant, there must have been no adult on the waiting list.

No. She is in surgery because she got special attention and special movement to the top of the list -- because of all the publicity.

I feel for the little girl and her family. I also feel for the person displaced because of the publicity.

They were right to criticize Sarah Palin. There are no death panels. A panel implies more than one person is involved. Clearly, that is not the case

You’d be quite an angel if you did. That’s another perspective I hadn’t thought of

It is quite possible that the actually happened. How do we know someone else didn't voluntarily step aside so she could get a lung?

Or how does anyone know whether or not this was divine intervention. Maybe this lung had her name on it from the foundation of the earth. There are a lot of people praying for this little girl.

I feel a great deal of sympathy for this child and her family, but I can’t help but wonder if her being pushed to the front of the line didn’t push someone else out of it.

I was wondering the same thing. It is great for her, but at what cost? It sounds like a very complicated situation. I am glad I don't have to make these decisions, it can't be easy for anyone.

Bingo! I have Pulmonary Fibrosis, a rare lung disease. I talk to people everyday that will die with a transplant. Most of them have young children to raise.

First, a group of Doctors set the guidelines for transplants that H&S must follow....

Second, After asking the doctor’s panel to review the policy, KS has the H&S attorney’s stand down and not challenge in Federal Court the parent’s request effectively allowing the ruling to go in favor of the child.

Given her legal and authority constraints, she did the right thing and walked a thin line...

Not a fan of hers but in this case she did the right thing....
