KAMPHAENG PHET, June 10 Thai security officials will reiterate the governments demand for reducing the violence in Thailands deep South in their peace talks with some leaders of the southern separatist movement on Thursday, a senior official said today.
Paradorn Patanatabut, National Security Council (NSC) secretary general, said the Thai authorities wanted to know who was behind the spate of attacks in Thailands southern border provinces in recent months and the real reasons behind the escalating violence.
He said the NSC has discussed with civic and youth groups in the South to garner information and their feedback to support the peace dialogues.
There were differences of opinion and a lack of understanding due to the language barrier, he said, adding that security officials would hold more discussions with civic groups.
Lt Gen Paradorn will lead a Thai security delegation for the third round of peace talks with Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) leaders in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday. High Malaysian government officials are facilitating the talks.

I have never understood why the Thais have wimped out on this issue.
Useless
Thailand should ban islam and eliminate all mosques
everywhere throughout the country .
Follow Burma’s lead
>> I have never understood why the Thais have wimped out on this issue.
One factor is business ties with Malaysia, which supports the terrorists/separatists.
Then there is the real threat of spreading terrorism, like a subway bomb in Bangkok, for example. I think the only reason that hasn’t happened is deals are being made to keep the lid on. Islamic leaders are notoriously corrupt. I can’t see any other reason other than they and/or the Malaysian bosses being paid off. Nobody really cares much about the casualties like the beheaded schoolgirls. No members of the rich and powerful, at least. All they care about is another US$1 million in a Swiss bank and more face.
BTW, the dateline for this story could have been any time in the last 15 years. I’ve seen several like this in that time span, and I don’t even follow the news here (Thailand) much.
Thailand has a history of maintaining it’s independence by bending/surrendering to powerful forces threatening them They did it with Japan in WW2 and kicked us out when Saigon fell.
