SWEDESBORO, NJ - Veteran Nascar driver Jason Lefler died after crashing in a sprint car event Wednesday night at Bridgeport Speedway in New Jersey.
According to police, Lefler had to be cut out of his vehicle, and was taken by ambulance to a local trauma center, where he later died from his injuries. Bridgeport Speedway immediately suspended racing for the rest of the night after the accident occurred.
Nascar confirmed the death in a statement: "NASCAR extends its thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies to the family of Jason Lefler who passed away earlier this evening. For more than a decade, Jason was a fierce competitor in our sport and will be missed."

Racing is inherently dangerous. Every driver knows this and goes into the racing knowing the risks. I have had the very bad experience of seeing a driver killed in a race. You don’t think it can happen and then, every so often, it does. With the changes in safety, much less likely, but still happens,
