LAS VEGAS (Reuters) - Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval on Thursday vetoed Democratic-backed legislation that would have strengthened gun-control rules by requiring background checks on customers in all gun sales in the state, including private transactions. The Republican governor said in a veto statement that the bill amounted to an erosion of Nevadans' constitutional right to bear arms that would do "little to prevent criminals from unlawfully obtaining firearms." The bill, which narrowly passed in the state Senate in May and was approved by the Assembly in June, would have also required Nevada courts to send information about legal defendants who are found to be mentally ill to a national clearinghouse for all new gun purchases within five business days after the finding. The veto came as Democratic lawmakers across the country pushed for stricter gun-control laws following mass shootings last year including the December massacre of 20 children and six adults at a Connecticut elementary school. And the Giffords/Kelly crew swings and misses again! (there was a story back a couple days ago that Giffords/Kelly had met with Sandoval and threatned to campaign and run ads against him if he dared veto the gun control bill. They haven't seemed to figured out yet, their threats garner little more than yawns...)

With all the gun safety bills in place nothing was going to stop Jared Loughner. The Giffords are using emotions to further their political aims...Ms. Gifford is not a Patriot in any sense of the word, both she and her husband are opportunists and IMHO Loughner is not insane.

Giffords was kept in office for > a year so she could get her full govt. pension, no matter that her constituents were unrepresented in that time. Grifters.

And her husband’s pit bull chewed up a baby seal in CA, but I don’t think he was ever charged with a crime. Imagine if a little person’s pit bull chewed up a protected animal in CA, what would happen to them.

Laws are only for little people.

The leftist extremist carrion feeders are bitterly disappointed. Look for Bloomberg to "invest" millions in Nevada politics in the hope of getting even.
