All the Infrastructure a Tyrant Would Need, Courtesy of Bush and Obama
The Atlantic ^ | June 7, 2013 | Conor Friedersdorf

Bush and Obama have built infrastructure any devil would lust after. Behold the items on an aspiring tyrant's checklist that they've provided their successors:

A precedent that allows the president to kill citizens in secret without prior judicial or legislative review

The power to detain prisoners indefinitely without charges or trial

Ongoing warrantless surveillance on millions of Americans accused of no wrongdoing, converted into a permanent database so that data of innocents spied upon in 2007 can be accessed in 2027

Using ethnic profiling to choose the targets of secret spying, as the NYPD did with John Brennan's blessing

Normalizing situations in which the law itself is secret -- and whatever mischief is hiding in those secret interpretations

The permissibility of droning to death people whose identities are not even known to those doing the killing

The ability to collect DNA swabs of people who have been arrested even if they haven't been convicted of anything

A torture program that could be restarted with an executive order

Many laws have unintended consequences.

Many laws have intended consequences.

Many times it is difficult to determine the difference.

SNOWDEN, PRISM, AND THE NSA

And if you want to hill chilling interviews that verify all of this, listen to and read these interviews with William Benny, a 40 year NSA career employee who became the Director of their Intelligence Division and 6,000 analysts under Bush. He's is revealing the true nature and scope of this thing. God bless him for doing so.

Former Director of NSA Intelligence reveals the full extent of PRISM capabilities. MUST SEE!

Obama has defied the Constitution. Obama’s appointees have lied to Congress. Obama thwarts the other EQUAL branches of government, declaring that the court lied and the court got things wrong, circumventing Congress with edicts.

We HAVE a tyrant, you fools at the Atlantic. Laws preventing it have nothing to stop him if they aren’t enforced.

Another big difference, Obama (and the other Dems) have a sycophant media. One that downplays scandals. One that lies for their candidate DURING a debate. One that falls all over themselves with hardons for their boy.

It is mostly a liberal thing. If someone invents a hammer (Bush) and it is used to bludgeon someone to death (Obama) then liberals will blame it on either the manufacturer, or the hammer itself.

Especially if the one wielding the hammer is a liberal.

But, as many posters point out, laws can be both a benefit and a curse, and it is well to keep this in mind up front when implementing them. It was a major mistake of the Bush administration to implement some of the elements of The P.A.T.R.I.O.T. Act in a time of crisis without considering fully how it would be used and misused.

And here we are.

The power to detain prisoners indefinitely without charges or trial

Check you history and you will find that Ol' Honest Abe was the first one who broke through Constitutional guarantees by denying Habeus Corpus.. Once the Constitutional dam was breached other left wing ideas floated in on the tide directed by Teddy Roosevelt, :Trust Buster" and creator of all those "National Parks" Woodrow Wilson, "League of Nations, Income Tax", Franklin Roosevelt,"Too many to list', Kennedy, LBJ, Nixon, etc...etc...etc.. until now we have old "Executive Order" Obama riding his surf board on the crest of a Socialist wave. Eternal vigilance...not our strongest suit.
