High taxes would be mostly responsible. When taxes drive the cost of living high, people tend to prioritize living over having children.
That didn’t change as a consequence of Obama, but delayed marriage and child-bearing DID happen ~ just like in post famine heavily Catholic Ireland.

My son in law and grand kids may well be listed as hispanic.
We live in a multi racial melting pot, just like our white European ancestors became an ethnic melting pot of European mixed national origin.

Protestantism and humanists initially, with a majority of Roman Catholics belatedly, and Liberal Jews towing the line, too. Legalized abortion added to the dearth as well. Americans of European stock have no one, no one, to blame, but themselves. One of the Pope’s in the late 19th Century called contraception, race suicide. I guess he wasn’t so wrong after all. Hence the Pope’s subsequently condemning it for several reasons. End result, the dwindling white population around the world. The America I grew up in is long gone, I don’t hardly recognize it anymore. A tragedy of our own making.
Indeed. IMHO onerous taxes, particularly the federal income tax, have been the greatest destructive force to the American family.
The wonders of Catholicism produced the paradises that are Mexico, most of South and Central America, and the lazier half of Europe (the south).
We need population growth to "thrive"?
India and China have collectively about 3 billion people depending on whose estimates you believe, and neither of them "thrived" just because of their numbers.
It was only after they adopted property rights and free market practices that they started to go anywhere.
So per capita income - which is what is needed to go up - has nothing to do with population growth.
