Chicago Public Schools says its plan to close 50 schools and programs means that it will have to lay off nearly 850 workers.
The number released Friday includes about 550 teachers along with teacher assistants, bus aides, clerks, custodians and security officers. CPS says some of those workers will be eligible to reapply for other jobs. They will be notified in mid-July.

This is the time of year when unions require admins to post potential layoff notices. They usually over reach to keep on the union's safe side. Odds are most of these positions will not be laid off come September.

At most 40 or 50 will be truly laid off.

Should close the schools, burn them down and rebuild...without the unions.
To: Oldeconomybuyer
Of course though they’ll receive full pay and pension courtesy of their unions ... maybe.

Gov’t agencies keep unfilled positions in their budgets so when they claim layoffs a good number of them are the positions not real people. I used to work for a union that inflated their “sacrifice” like that all the time.
To: Oldeconomybuyer
Well nothing left to do now but gin up the NEA and Unions and go occupy the capital building in Springfield. I seem to recall there is a Gov in Wis. was threatened by vile leftists/unionists yet there has been no teacher layoffs like they screamed about up there in futile derision. All that DemoRat Ill-n_Annoyed tax raisin’ couldn’t save their bacon.

they always talk about “laying off” teachers, etc...but then I notice that most of them get “hired back” later in the summer......do these little gimmicks just get the teachers unemployment?....
