TX:Baytown mom punches, runs over robber who threatened her kids

BAYTOWN, Texas -- A Baytown mother fought back – and won – when an armed robber threatened her and her two young sons, according to police.

Dorothy Baker was just driving home from CVS with her sons, ages 5 and 2, when a man crept up from the third row of their minivan with a knife.

He demanded money.

“So I asked him how much he needed and he said $200,” Baker said. “And I told him I didn’t have that kind of cash, I had about $20 in my account, and he said I better figure out a way to get it, or my kids were going to get hurt.”

Thinking fast and acting even faster, the mother of six ignored his request at one point to make a turn.

She said he then leaped up to the front row and realized she had dialed 911 on her cell phone. Instinct took over and she was able to rip the knife out of his hand.

She said she then pushed him to the passenger seat and punched him in the face, all while they were still moving.

“And I told him to get the hell out of my car,” she said. “And he said ‘fine.’ He got out and started running and the next thing I thought was if he gets away he can do this to somebody else.”

So she pursued him.

“He kind of ‘zagged’ and I turned, intending to clip him in the side or something to get him to stop,” she said. “And I ended up running completely over him.”

Baytown police identified the man as 53-year-old Ismael Martinez. He was taken to Memorial Hermann via Life Flight, where he was listed in stable condition.

Records reveal he served time in the TDC after a 1976 rape conviction.

Many people are praising the mom, who is now covered in scratches.

Baker does not see why.

“I see myself as a mom trying to protect her kids,” she said. “That’s it.”

She believes Martinez had spotted her family earlier in the day when they were at a Kroger across the street from the CVS.

She said he was smoking a cigarette and watching them, and that she recognized him the moment she saw him in her van.

Bizarre as this sounds it’s not much different from MN. Half the state lives in the metro areas and they are solidly communist. Outside of them and the iron range it’s red.

” Practically the entire state where I am is red, county-level, except for 3-4 where the biggest cities in the state are. Pisses me off to no end because it’s hardly representative of the state.”

If you hadn’t mentioned Texas, I would have thought you were talking about California! Actually, all the so-called “blue states” are just top-heavy with big cities full of Gibbsmedats. Downstate Illinois is no more like Chicago than Eureka is like Los Angeles.

“I accidentally hit him and then my transmission malfunctioned. It went into reverse for a few seconds, then back into drive for a few more seconds, then back into reverse for a few seconds, then back into drive for a few more seconds. I was finally able to get it to stop after that. Funny, it has never done that until now...”

Texas State Trooper: “Ma’am, you should get your transmission serviced. Have a nice day.”

According to the law in Jersey, if someone enters your home illegaly, you have to warn them before you use lethally force.

So it goes, “I’m going to kill you”. BANG

The way I get when threatened by violence... He would have been full of holes and missing some body parts complement of his own knife and my gun.

It would have been bad for the kids but fortunately, there were no children present that day in Philadelphia. There were no rape victims, either.

A happy ending, but I’d rather she grabbed a .45 out of her purse instead of a cell phone. He’s in her van, threatening her children with a deadly weapon. Imminent credible threat of deadly harm. His right to breathe was already revoked. She just needed to stamp it.

“And I told him to get the hell out of my car,” she said. “And he said ‘fine.’ He got out and started running and the next thing I thought was if he gets away he can do this to somebody else.” So she pursued him.

Based on this, I see trouble ahead for her. She would have been better of saying she ran over him because she was afraid he'd try to get back into to car, and she felt threatened. But running him down because she wants to protect against the possibility of him doing this to someone else ... well like I said, I think thete's trouble coming for her over this.
