WASHINGTON — The National Security Agency sweeps up data on millions of cellphones and Internet communications under secret court orders. But as it mounts a rigorous defense of its surveillance, the agency has disclosed new details that portray its efforts as tightly controlled and limited in scope, while successful in thwarting potential plots. On Sunday, officials said that though the NSA is authorized to collect "geolocational" information that can pinpoint the location of callers, it chooses not to. A secret court order that was made public earlier

Possibly the stupidest thing I have read this month. you spend hundreds of bllions of dollars to be able to gather intelligence, special intelligence to thwart terrorists, and you choose NOT to gather the location of cell phone calls?

If that were even true, every manager at the NSA should be fired for stupidity.

What a load of tripe.

But he’s techically correct —the whole system has foreign partners.

For the US protect technically the collector is a foreign entity. The US collects product on that country, then they do a SWAP.

This way they can assume the very strictest legal variation on the truth, and then swear to THAT.

It’s a lawyer’s game, see?

There's also an exception for Barack Hussein Obama...but that might already be covered by your comment.

Sadly the Government officials sit before Congress and lie with impunity. The head law enforcement officer of the federal government has set the example, and despite being found in comtempt, appears again and again with lie after lie. Other Federal agencies follow his lead and lie over and over. If they can’t under threat of purjury tell the truth to congress, then why would anyone believe their spin to media co-conspirators?

“On Sunday, officials said that though the NSA is authorized to collect “geolocational” information that can pinpoint the location of callers, it chooses not to.”

That’s kind of like saying, “I can kill you but I choose not to.”

Fine, they don’t ‘collect’ the location. Each Telecom provides it for them, so they don’t actually collect it.

...in a democracy, intelligence services have to be "a little less effective" in order to be "a little bit more transparent" to the American people.

With all due respect, General, that's why we're having this conversation. These services are highly opaque, extremely powerful, and being directed by people in the Executive who have a proven track record of abusing confidential information for political purposes. Anyone who doesn't understand this isn't paying attention.

Cell tower locations are useless since they bonce around when full. Now if they can localize a phone during an investigation, by turning the GPS on. then what you and the others say would be correct.

The government has no credibility. None. Period. They are no longer a government of the people, by the people and for the people.

It is an entity that has perverted the Constitution and declared war on the people. A cancer without the role of law. An entity of the government, by the government and for the government.

The only thing the people have to look at is the massive hallow point ammo purchase by the DHS. Anything coming from the government propaganda mill should be filtered through this action.

People are somehow not catching onto the special legal lingo being carefully used, here.

HOW in heck can Zuckerberg say, “We don’t provide the NSA with a backdoor”...? Cuz I have news for ya —he is TELLING THE TRUTH.

In fact ALL the prism partners carefully used that term BACKDOOR when issuing their TRUTHFUL denials. How?

Cuz a “BACKDOOR” is something that a victim never KNOWS about; if he knows about it from the start, then the door is NOT a backdoor, and ergo the denial is the TRUTH.

See?

ALWAYS LOOK FOR THE CATCH —this technique is used all the time, particularly with NSA. They have an entire foreign lexicon for stuff you THINK you understand.

In fact they assign very different meanings to many works you think you know —like “intercept” or “analyze” or “store”.
