Mel Wymore is a typical city council candidate in many ways, campaigning as a community board appointee, ex-PTA chair and founder of a roster of local organizations. But Wymore’s community-leader resume has an unusual feature: He built much of it while he was a woman.
If he wins, Wymore would be the first openly transgender officeholder in the nation’s biggest city and one of only a handful ever in the U.S., though his campaign isn’t emphasizing his personal story—or sidestepping it. …

All of the city council candidates on the UWS attempt to “out-progressive” one another. I’d like to vote for the older gentleman who stands with an American flag and an “Illegals Are Not Legal” sign in front of my subway stop.

I thought it was bad in 2002 when 6 of the 7 candidates for assembly were gay. This isn’t even a gay neighborhood. They are just ACTIVE. They are ORGANIZED. Swarms of them creeping through the big buildings with questionnaires for Quinn’s GOTV. Then they go to Starbux and take up the big table and don’t buy anything. Almost makes you feel sorry for the old-fashioned Democrats out there on the sidewalks collecting signatures for de Blasio.
