Twelve Republicans voted against John Boehners second term as speaker Thursday, making for a very tense final few minutes of the vote.
At one point, in fact, the number either voting for someone else or not voting reached into the high teens, raising the possibility that Boehner wouldnt secure a majority on the first ballot. Eventually, a few of those who hadnt voted including Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) cast their ballots for Boehner.
Boehner won with 220 votes six more than the 214 votes he needed. (A speaker needs only a majority of the actual votes cast, not of all members of the House. And heres the roll call.)
Below is a look at the defectors, whom they voted for, and our best guess as to why it wasnt Boehner:

Call them now and tell them that you will hold them responsible for their Speaker vote for Boner if Amnesty passes the House.
Sure sounds like an attempt to divide to me. Why?
I care about where they stand today.
Those who voted for Boner for speaker must be told that they will be held accountable and their no vote for amnesty will be too little too late when primary time comes. Amnesty must not be voted on in the House.
Your article date is wrong and therefore misleading.
If Pelousy is speaker, then those 18 Rino's are more likely to run away from Shamnesty, and makes it highly unlikely to pass the house. Thus, the rationale for conservative R's to revolt against Boner, and vote for Pelousy as speaker. The R's really can be more conservative as the minority party!!
Amnesty pimp begone.
The objective is for the rank and file to tell Boner not to bring any form of amnesty to a vote without GOP majority support. They will be meeting with him on July 10th and they must use that opportunity to stop the amnesty trainwreck before it happens.
Say what?! The goal is to get the weak kneed Boehner replaced with someone who will play hard ball.
He does.......against conservatives.
If we get a bill that requires the border to be secured and certified as such by the bordering states and Congress before anything else happens would that be acceptable?
Boehner was really criticized by us for the tax deal and then letting the sequester go ahead, but in retrospect it was pretty shrewd on his part. Because of the tax deal the Bush tax cuts have become permanent for everyone except the very top bracket which did get an increase. The sequester has slowed the rate of growth which is about all we can hope for with the socialists in control of the White House and Senate.
I think the Pubs see the trap laying in front of them. If they kill Amnesty too quickly they lose more of the youth and white females. If they don't kill it the socialists will control the country for at least the next 50 years. I believe the bill will die if it's passed with border security first in the House and no conference committee to reconcile the 2 bills.
So... in other words, if the R’s don’t legalize all the criminals, they’ll lose their votes?
Dam, we’re so screwed.
I take it that, because I noticed that you posted a false publication date for this article, I am pro amnesty. That is quite a logical leap. It also could not be further from the truth.
Personally, I think Canada, and probably the US, should immediately cease all immigration and refugee settlement until we can get a handle on it. I am against importing moslems who want to destroy western society or Mexicans who will end up turning Canada's neighbor into a third world country.
As we discuss and argue current events on this forum, I agree with the owners of FR, we should stick to the facts. You put a recent date on the article, this is wrong and misleading. You should get it fixed, along with your penchant to jump to illogical, and in this case, absolutely wrong conclusions.
Well said.
IMHO, this is also why the number of posts on any hot topic is way down.
