Jesse Ventura wants court to substitute Chris Kyle’s widow in defamation lawsuit
The Dallas Morning News ^ | June 18, 2013 | Robert Wilonsky

An ongoing legal battle between wrestler-turned-governor Jesse Ventura and American Sniper Chris Kyle over an incident in Kyle’s best-selling autobiography did not end with the Navy SEAL’s death in February. Now, the man formerly known as The Body wants to take on Kyle’s widow Taya, according to documents filed in federal court in Minnesota in recent weeks.

Their attorneys were in federal court just yesterday, pleading their respective cases to a judge who will have to decide if Taya is now responsible for a tale told in American Sniper about a bar fight Chris had gotten into with a man identified only as “Scruff Face,” who Kyle later acknowledged was Ventura. The story only takes up a couple of pages, but Ventura insists it never happened: He says he never bad-mouthed President George W. Bush and the war in Iraq, never said the SEALs “deserve to lose a few,” and never got “laid … out” by Chris Kyle.

I’m not taking any side or saying I support ventures action but I have always had doubts about the bar fight story. It just never made logical sense to me. Ventura is a celebrity and public figure the story seems highly unlikely.

There was no fight. Kyle knocked Ventura's sorry ass to the floor.

Ventura makes a pompous ass out of himself in public on a regular basis, so someone decking him finally seemed completely logical to me.

I’ve been trying to figure out what ventura’s case would consist of. Witnesses? The bar was full of Navy SEALs and family members. Ventura has continually claimed, falsely, that he was on a SEAL, rather than a UDT, team. And, believe me, SEALs know the difference, so they would likely have a built-in grudge against ventura. It seems likely that, if the case were to go to court, he’d get his ass kicked a second time.

Maybe he’s just hoping for a settlement. Any clues?

Just attempting to recycle his fading 15 minutes of fame in a lowlife fashion. He’s putting on a WWF style show at the expense of Chris Kyle’s widow. Ventura is scum.

This is a typical lawsuit move: When the target dies you target the estate. He isn’t targeting the widow. However, he should be a bigger man and let this go for the sake of the widow. He could have won all kinds of points by simply stating that he will drop the suit to benefit the widow. He could even reiterate that he stands by his statements that he never met Chris and still gotten some points in.
