Pew: Every TV News Outlet Had Coverage Supportive of Same-Sex Marriage

By Alex Weprin on June 17, 2013 11:28 AM

A new survey from Pew’s Project For Excellence in Journalism examines the coverage of gay marriage among the media. The big takeaway: almost every outlet presented more supportive statements in favor of gay marriage than opposing statements against gay marriage, including every TV news outlet.

Pew looked at every segment on gay marriage from March 18-May 12, and classified every statement made on the issue as being supportive of gay marriage, opposed to gay marriage or neutral.

As a whole, the network morning shows presented 44 statements in favor of gay marriage, none opposed, and 56 neutral.

The network evening newscasts presented 46 statements in favor of gay marriage, none opposed, and 54 neutral. Each cable news channel was broken down individually.

Given the three very different programming strategies of the channels, it was an interesting move, as all three presented far more supporting arguments than opposing arguments:

Even O’Reilley on Fox supported it pretty early on.

This is a surprise to you? Mr. Big Catholic O'Reilly is having a very nasty divorce and custody suit; and because he is now writing a book called "Killing Jesus", he has taken to arguing theology with his religious guests who actually have made theology their vocations. Insufferable hubris.

Doesn't surprise me. I am constantly amazed at people who try to argue theology when it becomes clear after 5 minutes that they have never even read the bible cover to cover.

The increase in public support for gay marriage has been driven by an intense propaganda campaign. Support for natural marriage has been essentially banned from major media outlets. People are not choosing this change - they have been told what opinion is acceptable. No debate, no discourse, no choice.

Wow...did not realize this was not allowed.

The “media” toads are obsessed with sexual deviancy these days. It’s really weird. IMHO.

It’s not that it’s not allowed. It’s that he doesn’t half know what he’s talking about, and thinks because he has a ghost writer and researchers doing his book, he can get up in the face of people who have spent a lifetime on the topic.

The Ultimate Supreme Court of Heaven will have the final say on such matters and NONE will overule the Almighty One. Take comfort in that eternal truth while this nation slides down the sewers at a faster rate.

Approving gay marriage degenerates my culture, and that threatens my kids, our health, natural marriage, religious freedom, and the truth.

The goal is to smash the patriarchy. Smash monogamy. Smash the establishment of religious tradition.

Same as the red diaper doper baby Left has been shouting for nearly 50 years.

The increase in public support for gay marriage has been driven by an intense propaganda campaign.

No doubt. But I also wonder how survey questions are phrased. Is it: "Do you support traditional marriage between one man and one woman, or do you accept two adults of the same sex getting married?" OR, is it phrased more like this: "Do you support the archaic, oppressive notion that only two persons of the opposite sex can be commited to one another and that that commitment must be predicated on the idea of the conception of multiple children no matter how financially and psychologically unsupportable such a situation may be, OR are you an open-minded, forward-looking, likable, progressive thinker who wants all God's children to be equal and have the opportunity to fulfill their destiny to love and be loved?"

Yeah, like that.

I’ve pointed this out over and over. That is takes such extreme bias in the media to even achieve parity on this issue and still the country is mostly split evenly. Even when we have Fox or conservative radio they fail to provide an outlet for the traditional marriage position in a real way and certainly nothing that will counterbalance the vast bias coming from the rest of the mainstream media. There are plenty of Phds and well educated researchers, social scientists, and therapists that for some reason never get air time on Fox or conservative radio. Instead they almost always invite a religious straw man to make a wholly religious case which is ridiculous.

A good Darwinian should never buy into the foolishness of Gay marriage. The whole idea of homosexuality runs contrary to reproductive fitness but you will never even hear this position on TV. They instead cast the debate as if opposition to homosexuality and gay marriage is just the adherence to outdated religious views no more detrimental than not following Mosaic food laws. I bet every network has reported on the dangers of ‘licking eyeballs in Japan’ and how gross it is. They would never ever report on the vastly more disgusting and disease spreading thing that is predominant among gay men called ‘rimming’. Truthfully almost no story dealing with the very real disease risks that are unique and inherent to common homosexual behavior makes it to news media outside the internet and if by chance there is a story it is never covered as if it is an indicator of a ‘bigger problem’ requiring a national conversation.

Too many people, especially the young have been brainwashed on this issue. They only see positives and the results of the pc thought police going after anyone who dares speak up against gay propaganda. This is why the left so hangs onto political correctness and is pushing so hard to make the tenets of it law. They know that with a true free marketplace of ideas that things like gay marriage would never have a chance in hell.

there is a difference between allowing legally and "supporting"....

this is a big downgrade for social standards....if two men can marry each other, than there is no reason why daddy and dtr can't marry, why sister and brother can't marry, or why two brothers can't just get married....

there has to be right, wrong......there has to be social tradition....there has to be social norms....

"there has to be right, wrong......there has to be social tradition....there has to be social norms...."

Those things are only valuable, and only have truth, if they are grounded in the one true God and the glory of Jesus Christ. Apart from that they are meaningless and worthless, just worldy ambitions which are of no benefit.
