So the FBI wasted how much time and money going after a guy who had zero chance of ever pulling this off? OK. I suspect we'll see more as the FBI and IRS try to come up with 'proof' that their targeting of citizens based on their political beliefs is 'necessary'. As I’ve said all along. The only “terrorists” our intelligence agencies are able to catch are the morons dumb enough to buy fake explosives from the feds.
I'm convinced there are a few well-groomed (by informants) marginally functional people out there who are ready-made media events with just a little spin.

Doubtless, every alphabet enforcement agency has a few of these 'cases' around, just waiting for budget time to pull their rabbit of choice out of the hat and gin up some press.
In the event they actually make something that goes 'boom' or works, either the agency stops it and puts a feather in their hat, doesn't stop it but 'solves' the crime with incredible speed, or they take the kook off somewhere and milk them for the details on the gadget.
