The Emmy-winning star of The Sopranos suffered a possible heart attack while in Italy, where he was attending the Taormina Film Festival, HBO confirmed Wednesday.
wow, if a “possible heart attack” will do that to you, imagine what an actual one will do!
So maybe he just kind of quickly faded to black.
A lot worse ways to go. Hope he was in the saddle. RIP.
I just hear on TMZ
They have not confirmed cause of death. I didn’t write the story nor did I edit it. I simply posted it when I found out.
May James Gandolfini RIP
A lot worse ways to go. Hope he was in the saddle. RIP.
All kinds of people drop dead while on vacation. Looks like this guy is now part of that growing list...Probably the food or change of routine makes the heart just explode...
Not to sound too insensitive, but guys with that barrel-chested body type seem to go out early like that.
Same age that my brother was when he died of a heart attack. RIP Mr. Gandolfini.
He was in Italy...Probably woofing down on Chef Boyardee’s big Beefaroni. .
Does this bring Chris Christie to mind?
Was he Brietbarted for his roll in 0-Dark 30....
Oh no. He was s nice guy. Too young.
It’s weird. It’s like I lost a good friend.I’ll try not to read too much into this feeling...;-)
Another huge obie supporter bites the dust. Liked his acting but his politics sucked. Like most ar-teests. RIP James.
On that thought I’m going out to smoke a nice cigar and reflect while I do my nightly mile and a half walk...
Going via a heart attack is not easy.
>A lot worse ways to go. Hope he was in the saddle.<
That is a happy thought in a sad situation.
I was counseled to always go on top. That way if you did die in the act, you got one more downstroke. When the EMT removed you, you got one more upstroke. And if they slip up and drop you, you get another downstroke... Followed by —Well, you get the idea.
Doesn’t Italy have socialized medicine?
They go in three’s so there’s probably going to be two more real soon.
What a shame. Way too young.
My favorite quote from the great philosopher, Tony Soprano:
Whaddya gonna do?
R.I.P. James. Thanks for the entertainment.
Inflammation is a trigger. They say the CDC tracks heart attacks to get a jump on flu epidemics, because the flu increases inflammation.
Vince Flynn died yesterday or today and Slim Whitman Died today. He was at least 90. Flynn was in his mid forties, James G was only 51.
For your listening pleasure:
Vacations should be better than this; but we know too often; even relaxing; can be deadly- if one not ready. And plane flights can take a toll...
Can only say; Prayers 'up' for James Gandolfini and 'God Bless'....
For your listening and viewing pleasure:
Yep, going to Europe for two weeks starting next week.
Over the past month, been working out like a fiend and eating healthy.
I plan every hour of the flight to stand up and walk up and down the plane, and drink plenty of water (which probably will take care of having to get up out of the seat to go to the lavatory).
One of the best endings in TV historyat least if you followed the series.(Too bad Bill and Hil stole it.) Not quite the end of Newheart, but a great one nonetheless.
never was much of a Soprano’s fan but Gandolfini was a good guy...did specials with injured soldiers and very much a regular Joe (he used to sit in the crowd with the regulars at Rutgers football games, was in the crowd at the MACY’s Thanksgiving Parade)...
James Gandolfini was my age but whenever I saw him on the TV, high blood pressure always came to mind. Now I have no idea how he lived his personal life but on the TV, he came across as a classic type "A" personality who was already on the verge of exploding into anger.
I would like to know what his diet and exercise regimen was in real life. Did he eat a lot of veal parm with cheese and pasta and wash it down with gallons of red wine? He seemed like that type of guy.
Anyway, he's my age and it comes as sort of a shock that somebody that young would drop dead of a heart attack. However, given his body mass, maybe not so much of a surprise.
The final episode left a lot of questions that could have been answered in a movie that will never be made. Will Tony be indicted? Will Silvio pull through? What will happen to Patsy Parisi, who ran away during the gunfight where Silvio was badly wounded? With Phil Leotardo gone, who takes over in New York?
That was my first thought. Chris is suffering from the sweats tonight.
My mostly fit brother died of a heart attack at 42. It happens.
But Gandolfini looked like he indulged.
Indulged and he looked 61 not 51.
Funny; I just read an article this month where Chase & James were interviewed about a possible movie & James said that he & Chase had thrown around some ideas. James said he would do a movie if Chase asked....first time there’s been ANY talk about a movie. Then this:(
Greta Van Dieselfuel has declared Gandolfini’s death was due to overweight, an object lesson for all obese people (I added the seond part).
Funny. I was just thinking of that same quote from early in the Sopranos where Tony is talking about his Mother's death; "whaddya gonna do?"
It answers a lot about the final episode. Now that he’s dead he would have to have been killed eating his onion rings. Before he would have survived. Now I just think there will be no rumored movie.
Coincidentally, today is Nancy Marchand's birthday. She would have been 85.
Toward the end of The Soprano’s I read an interview where he said one of the reasons he wanted off the show was because he was in so many scenes he worked twelve hour days with a lot of inactivity, waiting around on the set, and ate what ever was available which usually wasn’t good for you. He said it was taking a toll on his health. You can also watch the series from beginning to end and see his weight go up and up and he looks worn out by the last episode.
