A new poll from Pew Research suggests that President Obama has largely weathered the scandals and controversies of recent weeks without taking a hit to his approval rating despite a recently released CNN poll suggesting just the opposite.
The Pew survey found that 49 percent of Americans approve of the way the president is handling his job, while 43 percent disapprove. That's down just two points from early May, when 51 percent of those surveyed said they approved of the president.
But the numbers stand in stark contrast to the CNN survey, which showed Obama's numbers tumbling to 45 percent, down from 53 percent a month prior. The CNN numbers were driven by double-digit losses among independents and young voters.
But the Pew survey showed a different story, with the president largely buoyed by a positive economic outlook. A third of Americans say the economy will be better in the future, while just 19 percent say economic conditions will get worse. That's a reversal from earlier this year, and further echoed by the fact that the share of Americans describing the economy as in "excellent" or "good" shape has doubled over the past year, rising to 23 percent from 11 percent. It's also the most optimistic Americans have been about the economy since the president's first inauguration.
Voters remain frustrated by a stagnant job market, with 64 percent reporting jobs are difficult to find in their area. But that's still the most positive measure of the job situation since July 2008; in the president's first term, some 85 percent said jobs were tough to come by.

democrats control 99.99% of the media . the media protects Obama when it should be exposing government abuse
“Who believes this BS, seriously?”
Most of Congress and the Executive branch, unfortunately. Policy is adopted or rejected largely by sticking their collective finger in the wind.
1/2 of all Americans, are weak, spoiled, lazy and ignorant. Your post is spot on...
Most don’t care because this country, in 75 years, has devolved into Rome. History repeats itself. Of course most Americans would say: “Rome, what do you mean? Is that in Florida? I don’t get it”.
Not sure sometimes about the way this is going to turn it here.
That bottom graph looks like obama’s lying lips - though minus the purplish brown color.
Amazing, when you consider that he’s being hammered daily by major newspapers and broadcast media, just like the beat on GWB for 8 years...
What? There’s nary a whisper of scandal in the news, you say? Just unmentioned, manufactured ‘controversies’ and ‘kerfuffles’, you say?
Well, what are a few inconvenient stories, when stacked up against his awesome achievements and brilliant economic, domestic and foreign policy strategeries...?
Such polls should include a qualifier to determine if the respondent has a minimal understanding of the issue. Asking if Obama is doing a good job is meaningless if the individual does not know anything beyond O is pres.
(from the article):” The Pew survey found that 49 percent of Americans approve of the way the president is handling his job, while 43 percent disapprove. That’s down just two points from early May, when 51 percent of those surveyed said they approved of the president. “
Obama seems to go on vacation whenever there is a scandle, the proverbial “get out of town when the heats on”.
One thing that the Obamas do well ,.. they go on vacation !
Cost is no object , since the tab is being picked up by the tax-paying citizenry.
His popularity goes up whenever he is out of town , especially by those who only get video news through the media.
Those who are polled have the memory of a gnat ; their idea of news is an issue being resolved between 2 minutes of commercials !
That is the way that lamestream media rebuilds the empty suit , re-endowing it with character and leadership while aboraod.
Obama is the poster child of the established ‘political elite’ !!
Since CNN is in the tank for Obama and shows a marked reduction, I think this Pew Poll must be complete trash.
Of course he’s “weathering” the scandal storms. Who, other than Republicans are holding him accountable (and they are just BARELY doing that)?
To go back to that same, tired refrain: IF THIS WERE A REPUBLICAN ...! You guys know the rest! If this were a Republican, they would have taken a serious hit in the polls because the Democrat-party media organ would have been on every scandal, non-stop. The Lamestream Media would be taking every effort to explain to the American people how the scandals affect them and our standing in the world, even if they have to make up reasons why they should be concerned.
No, this DemocRAT in office now hasn’t felt nearly the heat that he should on these scandals. That’s why he’s able to “weather” them.
Pew is controlled by the same folks that control Brookings Institite. Brookings employees give about 99% to democrats over republicans.
Also, a major percentage don’t care what Obama does as long as they get their obamaphones and other welfare goodies.
Notice how journalists never question the integrity of a poll? Especially one that shows Hussein doing well.
LMAO!! The Pew and none other! One has Boy Zer0 at -10, and even Ras has him at -7 today.
Perhaps the poll is aimed at patting the complicit enemy media on the back for their hard work in ignoring the TRUTH regarding a list of criminal/impeachable offenses by little barry bastard boy? Give me three years to build a list of contacts and I can generate any result from polling you desire. Polling is just another to lie with authority.
“Policy is adopted or rejected largely by sticking their collective finger in the wind.”
Actually policy is developed in consultation with those who fund campaigns - labor unions, multinational corporations, billionaires, interest groups. Public opinion is then manipulated by the mainstream media, academics, and community organizers.
If the mainstream media had run daily stories pounding Obama about the scandals, like they did Bush on Iraq and Katrina, his approval rating would be in the 30’s. However the media is in unison telling people things aren’t that bad and are improving.
For those who have jobs, things are okay. For those who are on the government dole (either employed directly or on the benefit gravy train) things aren’t so bad. With 47% receiving some kind of government check it isn’t surprising his bedrock support level seems to be in the high 40’s.
Polls are all about the questions asked and the geographic distribution. The unfortunate thing about polls is they capture a lot of people who don’t feel passionately about much more than their tv shows.
Pew poll tells us it’s a non-story so therefore it’s a non-story. Nothing more than propaganda for idiots.
Pew is rather consistent with their propaganda. Like Brookings employees donations, they support demo positions 99% of the time.
HALF of these IDIOTS probably don’t even know who the VP is!!!!!
it’s been over for a good while now.
just think, when it is necessary to encourage your
base to get ginned up to stop the immigration (hah!) bill, and the first fight/
hurdle is with members of your own party (!)-—yes, of course, it’s over!
