School Apologizes for Threatening Valedictorian (Update)
Fox News ^ | June 21, 2013 | Tod Starnes

A Texas school district has apologized to a high school valedictorian whose appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy was threatened after he delivered a speech that referenced God and the U.S. Constitution — in defiance of district policies.

(snip)

Fran Merek, the superintendent of the Joshua Independent School District, issued a carefully worded statement apologizing for the incident.

“On behalf of the school district, I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to Mr. Todd Reimer and Remington Reimer for any interpretation of a threat by Mr. Cochran in expressing his displeasure at a meeting on Friday morning between Mr. Todd Reimer and Mr. Cochran following Remington Reimer’s valedictory address,” Marek wrote in a statement. “The District has never intended to nor will take punitive action against Remington Reimer for deviating from the prior-reviewed speech. The District endorses Remington Reimer’s appointment to the Naval Academy and wishes him success for all future endeavors in his naval career. District officials will ensure that district policy is followed at future graduation ceremonies.”

THAT is NOT an “apology”!!!

There is NO acknowledgement that the principle did anything wrong.

Typical. I had a friend/neighbour a few years back who was a miserable, controlling, nosy, bossy liberal (sorry for being redundant). If anyone took offence to her nastiness, she would apologize by saying, “I’m sorry that you took offence.”

Liberals are so “smart”. They know everything and are never wrong, so how could they possibly have to apologize for anything. The fault is obviously with the person who just doesn’t get it.

That’s right...the superintendent is subtly blaming the Reimers for a misinterpretation of the threat, and there is NO apology for shutting off the kid’s mike during his speech. In fact, they’re promising to do it again if another student “deviates” from the officially authorized speech.

We should all start praying in unison at all such gatherings. Something short and simple, maybe the Serenity prayer, or something like that.

If everyone in any public gathering started doing this, well it would be interesting.

Of course, it would have to be coordinated, but it’s like the old song “alice’s restaurant”, if one person does it, he’s crazy, if two people do it, they’re both crazy, but if lots and lots of people do it, it’s a movement!

The statement was actually written by the District's PR firm of Miller, Mueller and Shulman.

“Yeah, and then in the very last statement, they promise to do it again to any other student who dares to express free thought on God and the Constitution.”

This whole scenerio would be different if Conservatives would run for office and the like-minded people would get out the vote.

agree,my point was for the parents to lay low get the kid placed while getting some type of stealth legal and or accountability actions g(r)oing. Then after junior is all settled in at the academy then put the plan into action.Do like “they do” organize.Hold rallies against the school board, attend town meetings, write editorials, ask other kids to come forward about school official liberal abuse etc cause it aint going to end with that school district unless its brought front and center and this issue will be fresh on ever-ones mind.

If he hasnt been appointed and isnt sue the crap out of the principle for malice or something along those lines.

It typically requires a recommendation from a member of congress to be considered for admission. From previous reading on this story, I think this has happened and the kid is headed to the US Navy.
Parents should keep their eye on the prize before going after revenge. The principal will be rewarded at some point...

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

If Texas had the guts to rid ourselves of countless superintendents per school district to one per county we would have a better system.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

The solution is to **shut down** the current socialist entitlement, single payer, and collective school system that produced these superintendents and is producing more as I type.

The system must be replace with PRIVATE alternatives and ( preferably) non-Prussian model and prison-like brick and mortar schools.

The entire administration should be fired and blackballed. Thanks Timber Rattler.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Then shut down the socialist-entitlement, collectivist, and single-payer indoctrination camps, raze the building, dig up the foundations, and salt the earth.

The who scenerio would be different if Conservative shut down the entire evil socialist-entitlement and collectivist system of schooling.

There are counties and even whole states where, if conservatives and Christians removed their kids the entire EVIL system of socialist-entitlement and collectivist indoctrination camps ( mis-named “schools”) would IMMEDIATELY collapse!

Why should God save this nation when Christians and conservatives do this to their own kids?

Sadly it is much easier for many to sit around wringing their hands and complaining. They will whine how the system needs to be wiped out, teachers fired, buildings closed, etc... while not actually doing anything.
