In LA?

The odds are probably good that there were three freelance videographers working within five minutes of the crash.

There are guys staking out places all over LA trying to get paparazzi video 24/7. It’s a way of life there.

Crazy, huh?

There are freelancers ALL OVER LA / Hollywood and some in OC. Hollywood especially is a great place to be on weekend nights if you have a scanner and a car. The cop reads the name on the license and his location and boom, $$.

If you hear a celebrities name, you drive by, take a picture, and if it’s mediocre, you sell it for a couple thousand dollars. If it’s BIG, you sell it for more. And it’s almost a given that at least two celebs are going to be drunk/drugged and driving every hour on a weekend night.

Crazy? Not as crazy as overseas where dashcams are a way of life. In Russia and Thailand, they are big for insurance/legal purposes. People pull out in front of cars w bicycles, mopeds or just jump in front of them to try to get hit and then demand cash from the people who hit them. Makes for great dashcam websites.
