That’s exactly what we were talking about last night. 40-50 years ago, EVERYONE used that word. EVERYONE. And anyone who says otherwise is a LIAR.
I’m 63 and it was never used in my house growing up. I never heard either of my parents use it. Other than quoting Mark Twain I’ve never used it. It’s unnecessary and hurtful. It’s a mark of the uneducated as well, IMHO.
Call me sanctimonious if you like but it’s pretty clear that the word needn’t be used. I see no benefit in its use.
Agreed. She may be off-color, like miss piggy Betty White, but to destroy a person’s livelyhood over the use of a word, is not right. People hurt, jobs lost, just not fair.
I heard it. I used it. But a long time ago. Now when I hear it in conversation, it hurts my ears. It is in that mental lockbox with a couple of other words.
They are the “nuclear” option words. You can use them, I guess, but the conversation is over—and you lost.
Back in the '60's and earlier, the "N" word signified a lower class black, synonomous with "poor white trash" or "white trash". Both terms are (were) derogatory, but were very common place in language back then.
