The GOP Establishment is comprised of moderate socialists to down right liberal leftists. Until the Party gets rid of these DC blue blood anti-Conservatives, the GOP is dead.
The GOPe is an entrenched and fairly well funded bureaucracy. And the number one goal of a bureaucracy is self-preservation. They will resist reform by subterfuge and every action imaginable. IMHO it would be easier to start with a clean slate.
