In an email sent hours before his death in a fiery single-car crash in Los Angeles Tuesday, award-winning journalist Michael Hastings reportedly wrote that he was working on a “big story” and was going to “go off the radar for a bit.”
The subject of the email was “FBI investigation re: NSA,” KTLA reports.
A copy of the email, sent on Monday, was reportedly provided to KTLA by Staff Sgt. Joseph Biggs, who was a recipient of the email.
“Hey [redacted copy], the Feds are interviewing my ‘close friends and associates.’ Perhaps if authorities arrive ‘BuzzFeed GQ’, er HQ, may be wise to immediately request legal counsel before any conversations or interviews about our news-gathering practices or related journalism issues,” Hastings wrote in the email.

I read they positively ID’ed him with fingerprints that were on file at......wait for it......the FBI.
No kidding.

So we see him runnng the red light going fast as hell...and THEN he accelerates even more. Nuts.
Car was sparking from underneath before he went through the light. What would cause that?
“including the entire Seal team 6”
Correction: including some of the best long-range marksmen known to man, right on cue.
Then there’s the whole ‘assault-weapon’ ban effort—from a situation that wasn’t what it seemed to be and is now buried per state law, rather than explain the details.
I believe he was already dead when in the car.
Does a burned body have finger prints ? Dental records I’d believe. Otoh if FBI is/was involved from beginning what a great way to get him into witness protection without the bad guys knowing.
He didn’t say in his e mail the FBI was bad. Just that they would be questioning friends and business acquaintances. Friend notified us when he was doing a super secret government project . In fact FBI told her to
Was the road bumpy or wavy? If you’re doing 100 on a road intended for a much slower speed and your suspension is low enough, the K-member or something else can strike the ground. It can also happen if the suspension is too soft for that speed.
Or a Jon Doe ? Only burned accidents I’ve heard have had to use dental records to ID
Wonder when he turned on that street and if there are more cameras!
Back street. Pot holes likely
He was speeding so fast, it made other cars SHAKE!!! Was his GAS PEDAL STUCK???? Or was he BREITBARTED????
The body was BURNED BEYOND REGOGNITION!!....hmmmmmmm
ooohhh. the FBI SHOWED UP????? VERY, VERY INTERESTING!!! WHY THE HELL would the FBO show up at an ACCIDENT SCENE??????? To make sure he;s is UNIDENTIFIABLE and DEAD????
Because they were tracking his cell phone? Trying to intercept him?
hmmmm...it’s all VERY INTERESTINGLY BRIETBARTISH!!
We'll know in a few years - we'll see patterns of defining...
Yes, I thought that was pretty weird too. My friend who picked us up at the airport isn’t political at all either, and isn’t plugged in to news... she had no clue that this guy was in the news at all or who he was... nor did she care really... she just thought it was a really big scene and was impressed at the engine being way down the street

Has the FBI always fallen under the DOJ umbrella?

Why would the FBI have his fingerprints? They don’t have mine ! Do they have yours ?
There are several branches related to FBI according to your chart Maggie. Is it possible one finger didn’t know what other was doing. Need some foI filed. A tributary within the branch that reports only to a higher up?
Why did his story stir up the hornets nest?
Otoh know when you are getting top top secret clearance you’re told to tell family , neighbors and friends to expect a visit and questions. Don’t know why he would tell them to seek legal counsel
