Support for gay marriage high in developed nations: poll

Most adults in developed countries favor gay marriage or some type of legal recognition for same-sex couples and think they should be able to adopt children, according to an international poll released on Tuesday.

With the U.S. Supreme Court poised to rule on gay marriage this month and France's recent decision to legalize same-sex unions, an Ipsos poll for Reuters showed that 52 percent of people in 16 nations favor full marriage equality for gays and 21 percent support legal recognition but not marriage.

Only 14 percent of the 12,484 adults questioned in the survey objected to same-sex marriage, or any type of legal recognition, and 13 percent were unsure how they felt.

"What we see is that in every one of the 16 countries we surveyed, there is a majority in favor of allowing same sex couples to have some sort of legal recognition," said Nicolas Boyon, an Ipsos senior vice president.

"In nine out of 16 countries we see an outright majority in favor of full marriage equality," he added.

Nearly 60 percent of people polled thought gay couples should have the same rights as heterosexuals to adopt children and 64 percent thought same-sex couples were just as likely to raise children successfully.

"We see majorities in 12 of 16 countries supportive of gay parenting," said Boyon.

In Sweden, Norway, Spain, Belgium, Canada and France, where gay marriage is legal, a majority of people supported full equality for same-sex couples, along with most Germans, Britons and Australians.

In Argentina, which recognizes gay marriage, less than half of people (48 percent) favored marriage equality for gays.

The numbers were similar in the United States, where legal recognition of gay couples varies by state, with 42 percent supporting marriage for gays and 23 percent favoring legal recognition.

Opposition to legal recognition or marriage of gays was highest in Hungary, South Korea, Poland and Japan, where 37 percent of people said they were unsure about how they felt.

I noticed this poll convienently neglected the stats for Muslim countries. I'd also be curious in the stats for developing countries.

We are losing on this, and if you believe the Bible, as I do, this goes against God's plan for marriage. I think society is becoming less religious, and if they are religious, they believe in a version of Christianity that has been conformed to liberalism. The leftist propaganda campaign has worked exactly how they wanted it to.

They can announce they are married in the eyes of man... but they are an abomination in the eyes of their Creator. I know they have no problem with that.... as they do not believe in God.... they just need to leave the rest of us to live according to our beliefs.

If you had told me we’d fall this far since 2000, I’d be shocked. Incredible.

Exactly, they only polled folks in what they determine to be developed countries and then neglect to poll people in nations such as Saudi Arabia, China, Afghanistan, Mongolia and the sub Saharan countries of Africa.

If they were to poll these other not so developed countries, the world results would be more reflective of the world and even the US.

Yes: Being pushed, and pushed hard.

1% of queers could not do this alone.

There has to be some sort of secret international cabal that is pushing these queers.

Of course the 1% figure is Bullshyt, more like 10%to 20% in my estimation.

Yes I know the official count is one to two percent, I also know the Government claims inflation is less than 4% too.

It’s all one Leftist ball of wax: the Marxist Left that is dedicated to tearing down Christian nations. They don’t actually give a darn about homosexuality or homosexuals, but promoting perversion gives them the upper hand in society and serves as a huge tool in tearing down what has made America and other western countries great. The same people who are promoting homosexuality are siding with Snowden, Manning. The so-called cabal works on many fronts, all part of the same plan.
