Longtime Democratic U.S. Rep. Edward Markey defeated Republican political newcomer Gabriel Gomez in a special election on Tuesday for the state's U.S. Senate seat long held by John Kerry, a race that failed to draw the attention that the state's 2010 special Senate election did.

You are so conservative you think you know more than George Washington? WOW!!!
YOU ROCK!!!
BTW, there’s a few questions you kept ducking on this thread

Instead of pinging me here and spreading the ‘win at all costs’ nonsense, why not go back there and answer them?
the Democrat Party should be outlawed and banned , as an organization of treason and treachery , entirely detrimental and to the future well being of the United States of America .
If that's the criteria ban the Republicans, too.
Experience teaches us that it is much easier to prevent an enemy from posting themselves than it is to dislodge them after they have got possession.
George Washington
fine with me
America needs to be led by warriors not by lawyers
Gomez, like Brown in 2012 and too many of the DC ostrich-in-the-sand idiots, think you win by doing nothing to make your base enthusiastic. The blueprint has been laid out hundreds of times and works almost every time. A candidate doesn’t have to be a lockstep right-winger, but they have to tackle the biggest issues of the day with solid conservative ideas.
Scott Brown did it with great skill in 2010. He hit all the right cords on the big issues. Then, in 2012, he ran left to appease the Obama voters. As a result, he’s gone. Gomez could have run a completely different campaign in this special election and run away with it.
Although the Latino vote in this election lays out another conclusive example of the failure of the current DC-think on the GOP and immigration, it is a secondary issue. Appeasing the left and ignoring the base is a stupid way to go in politics. A Republican can win in Massachusetts, or anywhere) when they provide a clear alternative.
You might want to pass this on to Norm, he seems to be confused.
Nope. You wanted a lib to win under the GOp banner. Thats a fact.
Much better than wanting an avowed Commie to win. Life is about making choices. You made yours.
Most people knew Mass would vote full commie. Its not a huge deal. We still have a solid path for 2014, and Gomez was a mini McCain/Portman
Agree; at least the worst of Repub Leadership; we call ‘Elite’s. But are either RINO’s or may as well be.
century, whoever you are debating ... they don’t live in MASS. If the conservatives were serious in MASS, they could have voted for Sullivan in the primary ... but they didn’t show.
Gomez ain’t worth arguing about.
I am sure his campaign geeks knew that they were writing off 30,000 arch-conservatives that they weren’t going to get no matter what ... in an attempt to win over 150,000 liberal unenrolled independents. He lost by 110,000 votes, so the 30,000 don’t matter.
As for me, I don’t waste my time campaigning against guys like Gomez. Tisei, on the other hand, needs to be stomped on.
How's that liberal Republicanism workin' out for ya, GOP????
You ought to send that post to the GOP...and tell them that while THEY know these results, so do WE in the grassroots!!
Irresponsibility wins over responsibility. We are headed for the wall
This guy took delight in sticking his finger in the eyes of conservatives. He also said one of his main jobs would be to change the Republicans from the inside. Good riddance.
Here is a town-by-town analysis:

Sure. But in Massachusetts, a generic Democrat -- a Democrat who doesn't call attention to himself or make serious mistakes -- will win 9 times out of 10, whoever the Republicans nominate.
Martha Coakley made mistakes in 2010, and that was the one time out of ten when a Republican could win, which helps explain why Scott Brown won that year.
Markey was bland and colorless, had money, and said as little as possible, so he won. Gomez was a lousy candidate, but there was no Republican running who could have won in Massachusetts now.
