Refrigerators wont make good Faraday cages. The door isnt connected to the box via metal, that rubber gasket is great for keeping the cold inside, but for radio signals its an opening. But what conversations or information are they going to pick up in a dark, closed refrigerator?
The purpose might not be to block the signal as much as provide an effective barrier to light and ordinary sound.
