I applaud the cop in that video for using discretion to render a “learning” moment. From my recollection 15 years back however, most NJ highways are parking lots at certain choke points and stretches. I can see a potential abuse from “ambushing” to meet ticketing quotas.
An ambush is when you are in the passing lane and the cop is hanging in your blind spot and matching every speed change you make to prevent you from changing lanes. Speed up or slow down doesn’t matter, he has you pinned. In frustration after repeatedly changing speeds with my signal on, I gunned the gas and passed only to have the bubble gum machine blinking in my rear to give me a speeding ticket. True story.
Holy crap I know RIGHT where that is... I-78 eastbound prior to Berkeley Heights... Yeah... there is no tolerance for that... right at where that video ends after the bridge the highway becomes divided by Jersey Barriers. You can make good time there since there is no way for a cop to turn around and come get you... I would hit 136MPH in that stretch just about every day.
