Don’t Take the Bait on Gay Marriage: Obama is still on the ropes, why do him any favors?
Pajamas Media ^ | 06/27/2013 | Roger Simon

You don’t have to have been Nostradamus to have known that the fight for same-sex marriage in the USA and in Europe has been over for twenty years or more.

The handwriting has been on the walls so long they’ve crumbled and turned into architectural relics out of Ancient Rome, as the polls swung inexorably in favor of gay marriage.

The Supreme Court decisions on Wednesday were the thinnest veneer of icing on an already many times baked cake. Legal challenges are irrelevant. They only delay the inevitable.

Any other clichés, Roger? Okay, here’s one. The horse is already so far out of the barn it’s lapped the field for the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Stakes combined.

So what are we to make of all this?

As the late James Gandolfini would say, “fughgeddaboutit.”

Do yourself and the right, center-right, and everyone else who’s got his or her priorities on straight a favor and move on.

Don’t do Barack Obama any favors!

He is on so many ropes you can’t count them. The only thing that can help him is for a bunch of rightwingers to start screaming about the sanctity of marriage.

Don’t do it! Don’t take the bait!

Make peace with your gay friends, neighbors, and relatives. They should thrive and be happy. Or be indentured to divorce lawyers for the rest of their lives like so many of us. Whatever happens happens.

Move on!

And for those who say we’re on the slippery slope to polygamy, incest, or whatever, stop it! There’s no concrete evidence for any of this. Gay people — the ones who are getting married anyway — want to be bourgeois like you. We’ve all met tons of gay people but very few (if any) polygamists and not a single person who is sleeping with their mother and/or sister. (Well, maybe in the movie Deliverance and I’m not even sure it really happened there.)

Look inside yourself and stop making this absurd, straw-man argument for which there is no serious real-life corroboration in the U.S., only in the Islamic world.

(That means you, Dennis Prager. You’re too smart for that kind of sophism.)

One thing Obama and his minions thrive on is distraction — and protest of gay marriage will be distraction one, I promise you.

Play offense, not defense.

You want some offense to play? Here’s a few: the IRS, Benghazi, Obamacare, the dreadful economy, massive unemployment, a deficit the size of Mars, fifty million people on food stamps, every citizen in the country being spied on, scientific nonsense about global warming, the blocking of U.S. energy resources, kowtowing to Islamofascists, Fast and Furious and the rest of the misuses of the Justice Department, porous borders, Mexican drug cartels, Syria, Egypt, Lebanon, the Muslim Brotherhood, nuclear Iran, Hezbollah, Hamas, al-Qaeda, al-Nusra, etc., etc., etc.

All that and you still want to worry about gays getting married?

Excuse me if I think you’ve got your priorities out of order?

And one last thing: you can’t have everything. No one can.

If you’re so worried about gays getting married, take the fight to where it should be fought — family, friends, clergy, our personal lives. In other words, the private sphere. Leave this one out of government control. They’re dealing with a lot more than they can handle as it is.

That's right you Conservatives! Get back in line to support illegal amnesty and getting RINO Chris Christie elected in 2016, your old fuddy-duddy ideals about biblical morals are just helping Obama, and everybody knows that we need to get rid of Obama so we can get our agenda of...uhhh...uhm...well it's pretty much Obama's agenda, but with an R next to it... /sarcasm off

The problem is the opposite. It was not inevitable 20 years ago, or even 8 years ago. In fact, this battle was all but over in the eyes of our side. It became the great battering ram in election cycles in the 2000s. Put this on the ballot to help on other sides of the ballot. Until November NO citizenry had voted for gay marriage, we had a clean sweep. We were batting 1000.

After Prop 8, our side looked at a leftist state like California as amending their constitution to outlaw gay marriage as a permanent victory. Then came the H8 campaign. Our side chuckled at the silliness of labeling over half the population of being bigots and haters. It was a ridiculous charge, and no one presented a counter argument. Fast forward 5-10 years, and we have a generation of people who only saw one side, and have adopted that view in near majority numbers. For most people under 45 years old, we know plenty of gay people. We work with them, go out, and have fun. Unlike previous generations, the social circles are largely mixed. Opinions changed because the line was blurred mixing support for gay marriage with acceptance of gay people. I for one have many close friends from over the years who are gay, but I recognize that marriage is marriage. Most people are not as engaged in government policy to differentiate.

The lesson here is that the left marched forward and changed the debate, and we didn’t respond. No matter what the issue, we have to be vigilant (whether we are winning or losing a public debate at this moment), and continue to forge on to influence the population. Our political party focuses on a final 30 day concentrated effort to push votes, but we have to be 365 24/7 on the issues or we will lose on every front.

Bah!

Never stop fighting. Conservatives are smart enough to war on two or more fronts at once.

‘scuse me.....Over for 20 years or more?

This case was about a BAN on gay marriage passed AT THE BALLOT BOX by the people of California, arguably our most Liberal state.

This is only happening because heavy-handed elites do not like that and are thus cramming this down our throats.

"Surrender." "Give up." "Concede." "Get over it." "It doesn't affect you." Etc, etc.

No. We will not give up. If you want to aceept, affirm and embrace, that is your business, but we will not join you. Our churches will not join you. We will not compromise our principles for peace and safety. We will not kiss Ceasar's ring.

Roger's son is gay and so he's all for gay marriage.

The media tsunami on gay marriage and their phony push polls can't change the fact that this is a stupid, stupid idea.

This is stupid. This is what has led to this day. These same types have led the detante on this issue sitting silently by while supermajorities of American people opposed same sex marriage and would still if an equal hearing were provided buy instead we have a propaganda press which will not allow an even debate and a conservative media too cowardly to lead the charge. That it has taken such a msm such a universal effort and pop culture effort to squeak support for gay marriage up to 53% with poll questions geared to produce that result shows how weak their position is if only we would fight. The south and many parts of the midwest are still by super majorities opposed to gay marriage. So why should we not double down and fight the progressive sexual hoards that have produced an increasinly immoral sexual culture?

Traditional marriage still out polls the GOP in every state of the union. Even where traditional marriage lost narrowly in blue states like MD, MN, & WA it ran well ahead of Mitt Romney. Marriage also has a far greater appeal to minorities. I thought we were trying to appeal to minorities? I’m sorry no we are trying to appeal to ‘illegal alien’ minorities. The real issues of family break down and faith are ignored by GOP when addressing minorities but I digress. Let us surrender right when we need to hold the line and go on the offense more than ever.

Sometimes I hate the GOP neoprogressive class more than leftists. At least leftists have balls.

Because that's what Republicans do.

Sure, Roger. If we just gave way on this, on abortion, on gun control, on racial reparations, on illegal immigration, on NSA data mining, on IRS abuse, why, 0bama would be as good as gone! Hell, we could all start voting Democrat and then he'd really be hurting, right?

No retreat. No surrender. This is crap.

Sorry Skippy.
There was no "evidence" back in the late 70s (were you even alive then?) that the perverts were not serious when they whined, " All we ask is for a little tolerance."

There was no evidence whatsoever that the perverts were the camel with a gigantic nose, determined to not just get the nose under the tent, but to destroy the tent altogether.
No evidence whatsoever.

So spare me the societal equivalent of rape and to paraphrase a well known sophistrist, "at this point, what difference does it make?"
If the rape is inevitable, might as well just relax and enjoy it.

Sorry; I'm not playing.

That is the bottom line. Grass roots activism 24/7/365, every day even years in between elections; specially years in between elections!
When the majority prevails, right or wrong, and the majority is uninterested or otherwise ignorant, we will always lose.

Not exactly we simply have to stand out ground on the issue. It didn’t take 24x7 efforts to stall the global warming advance. What it takes is taken the issue seriously certainly and not being silenced which is what is happening. You have CEOs coming out for gay marriage but even though nearly have or more in many places oppose it when a CEO comes out against it he is pilloried? That is why this issue has slipped.

I found this article to be merely interesting. The author conveniently attempts to ignore the fact that this is merely another step to the left which will be followed by many more until there is no morality left.

If you, like millions including me, find this entire descent into hell an abomination then you’re thinking the right way!

This is a LOT bigger than Barack Obama...this is a fundamental change to our culture and society and a radical break with our heritage, and since Obama IS for it, that’s powerful reason for any THINKING person to be AGAINST it.
