Gang of Eight’s Semi-Success, for Now
National Review ^ | June 28, 2013 | National Review

Opponents are optimistic that the House will put the brakes on.

By Andrew Stiles

In the end, Gang of Eight members failed to secure the 70 votes they wanted for their immigration-reform bill, which passed the Senate 68 to 32 on Thursday, after months of mostly secret negotiations.

NR is still in business? With a business model of calling white conservatives “racist” for the evil left you would think they could just pass out copies of their rag in the office and every subscriber could save the postal charge.

Why do we have to have laws passed which result from secret negotiations?

Why do we have to have bills which are thousands of pages long, which nobody has read?

Why do we have to have some “comprehensive” bills on some subject, which contain numerous unknown provisions to deal with some pressing issue, rather than passing bills which address a specific aspect of that isssue?

Why do we have to rush to pass these bills by some arbitrary deadline, just because someone such as Harry Reid decrees that’s how it’s going to be?

Under Bonehead, the chance of house-supported amnesty is 50-50.

Following that, it’s just a matter of starting a countdown pool for the start of CW0-II and the “Great Reset”.

If Bonehead wasn’t Obama’s right-hand man there would be no House Amnesty Bill.

Don’t wait for the damage to be done, dump Boehner NOW.

House Last Line of Defense Against Amnesty: “fold it up into a paper airplane and throw it out the window.”
Posted on June 28, 2013 by Teri

I couldn’t have said it better myself, Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-KS). My friend Peter Roskam (R-IL) also stated the case well. From National Review:

Chief deputy whip Peter Roskam of Illinois is certain that the House would never take up the Gang of 8’s bill in its present form. “It just won’t happen. It is a pipe dream to think that that bill is going to the floor and be voted on,” he said at a breakfast Thursday hosted by National Review.

Here’s the bottom line, Kids. Two words: No conference. The 1000+ page mess that is coming over from the Senate has to be D.O.A. when it gets to the House. We reject the uncoupling of border security from the legalization of illegal aliens. We want border security first. The fact that Barack Obama’s team, who, as we reported here (if you missed this post, you definitely need to read it) were pulling all the strings behind the scenes made that demand a deal killer tells you everything you need to know. The fact that Obama and Schumer rejected any quantifiable objective measure of border security, such as the one John Cornyn proposed, is demonstrates that they understand all too well that the “tough border security” is a sham because (1) Janet “The Border is More Secure Than Ever” Napolitano can waive most of it and (2) future Congresses can refuse to spend the money.

So, repeating when you write and call your Congressman, tell him you want no conference with this Senate bill. You want individual bills to address the problems with border security and employer verification. Tell him that otherwise, we’ll be back here in 10 or 20 years, and that’s the definition of insanity; that is doing the same thing and expecting a different result.

More important information here.

Stand firm, Patriots. We can defeat this amnesty. Remember distracting and discouraging you are two of the Left’s most potent weapons. Take them away

Massive border security, reform of the visa process, and (in my opinion) some sort of allowance for those already here to get a work visa without criminal penalty is fine. The rest is crap.

We do need some reforms. The system is outdated, it is not set up to reflect our need for skilled workers in the tech industries, nor does it reflect our current technology capabilities. We do not need special pathways to citizenship, nor do we need all the pork and special favors.

The question is how does the House pass something that doesn’t get twisted into the Senate bill once it is in conference. I just don’t know how that can be done, because the public pressure would be huge after the House passes their bill.

House GOP should publicize the pork in the bill. Just list 5 or 6 of them. If anything angers people, its unrelated pork in a bill. It will kill the credibility of the travesty passed in the Senate by the Dems and old guard RINOs (and that chameleon, Rubio).

How about we secure the border?

What is the rush for any of the other components of this “comprehensive reform”?

With F&F, AP, IRS, NSA, Benghazi, and arming Al Qaeda in Syria why is ANY time being spent on the Amnesty agenda?

Aside from being far less important than any of the items mentioned it is Obama’s agenda. Republicans were not elected to implement Obama’s agenda.

Another example of Republicans differing from Democrats only in implementation details, not agenda.

Here's an opportunity however, to demonstrate that is not the case.

Some suggestions: The House bill should not exceed 12 pages instead of 1200 pages - outline the hard requirements of securing the border first, then, the path to citizenship in the future (reversing the tables on amnesty first/security second) - reiterate enforcement of existing laws rather than creating new ones and - remove funding for Obamacare and move the funds to support this bill.

Just common sense ideas that plain folks can understand

Well put;simply said.It is shocking what is going on.F&F, AP, IRS, NSA, Benghazi, and arming Al Qaeda in Syria are all federal and in some cases capital crimes against the republic. The morons of this country have their collective heads up an iphone or HD TV.Hillary knew what she was saying when she said “what does it matter”.I do not know enough psychology to understand how a people:30’s Germany,USA today etc. can just turn off.

How about NO BILL?

Enforce existing law.

How can we know what problems exist with a system if we don’t use the system?

Secure the border - as required by current law.

EVERYTHING else can wait.

THAT is how to demonstrate that Repubs are not implementing a Democrat agenda.

The House of Representatives says they will not entertain the Senate plan, they will offer their own plan.

Bah, the GOP has been doing this for decades, with the exception of the 80s. They have been trying since the 1930s to out-democrat the democrats and failing miserably at it. Here is FDR mocking the GOP about it in 1936:

"Let me warn you, and let me warn the nation, against the smooth evasion that says 'Of course we believe these things. We believe in social security. We believe in work for the unemployed. We believe in saving homes. Cross our hearts and hope to die. (laughter and applause)

'We believe in all these things.

But we do not like the way that the present administration is doing them. Just turn them over to us. (laughter and applause)

We will do all of them, we will do more of them, we will do them better and, most important of all, the doing of them will not cost anybody anything'"

FDR won that election and two more after it. Then Truman won a third and if Ike wasn't a huge war hero the dems probably would have gone on winning elections. This GOP strategy of accepting democrat premises and policies but promising to implement them in a more efficient way has never worked. It's why as a conservative I refuse to be a republican.

Michelle Bachman explained it. ANY House bill no matter if it promises all the border security in the world will be a trojan horse.NO bill at all must come out of the House because it will be merged with the Senate Amnesty and trojan horse bill. Call congress.

Tell them to stop all Amnesty or immigration bills.they are all trojan horse bills. some will promise border security that will never be enforced anyway.

Bachmann explained it . The House will write a border security bill only . then in conference the senate will add the virus and then bring it back to the house. then the conservatives won’t vote for it but democrats will all vote for it so then they only need 10% of republicans to pass Amnesty and the virus that will destroy America. so any bill at all will be added the virus . so best thing is for Boner to not let any immigration bill at all come out of the House. that is the only hope . call boner and the members of the House.

in the bill will be the virus:

at least 3 ways to destroy the USA

1. amnesty to 30 million illegals and chain migration.

2. Amnesty forever to ANY foreigner in the 3rd world. all he has to say is he’s seeking political asylum .there are 6 billion poor in the 3rd world . and this bill will allow any of them to come here , all they have to do is to get on a boat and come here.
3. many more work visas for many occupations

Utter B.S. You are delusional to believe that.

Let's bookmark this post and come back after Labor day. I am 100% certain that after "conference" there will be the exact Immigration bill the evil Statists in both parties desire.

The GOP-e are as traitorous as any on the left.

so, are you happily confident that immigration will fail? LOL. One has to be delusional to think the GOP will defeat this monstrosity.

The GOP must be destroyed. We need to move the huge Conservative base to a new party. Let the Statists have their Party.

Bush and Hillary can form a 2016 ticket.

A new Conservative party is the only way to save this Republic.

Dumb, troll-like thinking. A 3rd party means losing and losing and losing. In politics only winning counts.

Just so you know: we’re winning.

Look here:

Not familiar with the RSC?

http://rsc.scalise.house.gov/aboutrsc/whatisrsc.htm

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republican_Study_Committee

They’re at their highest membership ever and represent a majority of the GOP in the House for the first time:

Find your Rep. and thank him/her. Give them your support and send them a few bucks. Stop ragging on the GOP, if you continue to undermine them you’re a traitor and 5th Columnist.

Building up the GOP is the way to go. Stop tearing it down, learn something and support those doing something.

What a crock of sh*t. You are definitely a ROVIAN drone. Face it, millions of us are absolutely fed up with the GOP

I would enthusiastically join a new second party.

Take this to the bank: I am so mad at the GOP that would not hesitate to vote for Hillary over Jeb Bush. I cannot stand the arrogant elitists like Rove and the other slime you so LOVE.

P.S. I wont have to vote for Hillary because, hopefully, by 2016 a new Second party will be ascendent and steamrolling over the pukes like you that support the GOP. Go worship the GOP Statist party. I am through.

You post these useless stupid links. Do you think I would go and look at "just words"?? Do you the intellectual honest to realize that power lies with the Statist of both parties.

These absolutely useless study groups are a total waste of time. The GOP-e power broker jokers laugh at fools who think these groups will make a difference.

I fully expect if an immigration bill is signed that Sarah will led the effort to form a new second party.

Many true Conservatives in the current GOP will leave in mass and join the party.

The GOP must be destroyed and humilated.

You and your pal Rove can stay in the dying Statist party.

Why on earth wouldn't you look at the sites I posted to you? Why wouldn't you investigate what's really going in in the GOP? You say they're only words, you type words and you read words on FR.

If you don't want to think, don't. But, please, stop lying and trolling around here.

LOL. I know enough not to waste my time.

Again, do you understand that if the GOP-e has their way , they will help destroy this Republic?

All the useless links you post I sure will sound like some ideal expression of civics found in some 50's class texts.

Again those links are an absolute waste of time -- full of useless c*ap.

You say they're only words, you type words and you read words on FR.

I have donated directly to Conservatives, I have participated in many Tea Party events. I do more than just type words

If you don't want to think, don't. But, please, stop lying and trolling around here.

Trolling? ridiculous.

Believe me, I read a lot and I think a lot. If people thought the Tea Party had great energy. If the Statists in both parties were shaken to their core at the success of the Tea Party in 2010, then just imagine the fear they will have when a new Second party explodes on the scene.

P.S. Please tell Rove and all your GOP-e friends we are going to destroy them politically. I will take great joy seeing the GOP Rinos have to move to the RAT party as the GOP dies.

This illegal Immigration bill will truly waken the sleeping giant of working Americans against the arrogant elites.

I don’t have any GOPe friends. Either vote for the most conservative GOP candidate or yield your vote to the Democrats. That’s the political reality you face.

That you don’t know the conservative majority and their continuing victory in the GOP tells me you don’t know much. We’re not losing.

That you cannot distinguish between a GOP conservative and the GOP elite marks you as a non-thinker. Look at those links. See the actual members. Know that they’re a majority of the GOP majority in the House. That’s what’s holding Boehner’s feet to the fire. We’re winning. Whining about some imaginary 3rd party is a joke. The only reason to ever vote 3rd party is if the Dems are voting 4th party or if you like losing and turning the country over to liberals.

LOL are you serious?? You truly can't see reality.

Yea, we are winning --- I see Obamacare being defunded (NOT), I see Special Prosecutor for the IRS scandal being pushed forward (NOT)

Boy, we are definitely not going to have any 1200 page Immigration bill passed by the House, no way!! Yea, Boehner will just pass a 12 page Secure/Seal the border bill!! LOL, LOL..

If you believe we Conservatives are winning, then you are deep in the bowels of the nuance of Political theater -- not the real world of watching D.C. destroy our Republic.

I am bookmarking this thread and will come back to you after the conference bill from the House passes and is signed by the President.

I feel sorry that you believe the idiocy that must be posted at the useless links you posted. Some people are so gullible.

And YES, a new second party is inevitable and it will destroy the useless GOP.

I still can't stop laughing at the line, we are winnng... LOL. Thanks for the laugh....
