‘Hell to pay:’ Residents angry as RCMP seize guns from High River homes (with video)(Canada)
Calgary Herald ^ | June 28, 2013 | Trevor Howell

‘It’s just like Nazi Germany,’ says resident.

HIGH RIVER — RCMP revealed Thursday that officers have seized a “substantial amount” of firearms from homes in the evacuated town of High River.

“We just want to make sure that all of those things are in a spot that we control, simply because of what they are,” said Sgt. Brian Topham.

“People have a significant amount of money invested in firearms ... so we put them in a place that we control and that they’re safe.”

That news didn’t sit well with a crowd of frustrated residents who had planned to breach a police checkpoint northwest of the town as an evacuation order stretched into its eighth day.

“I find that absolutely incredible that they have the right to go into a person’s belongings out of their home,” said resident Brenda Lackey, after learning Mounties have been taking residents’ guns. “When people find out about this there’s going to be untold hell to pay.”

About 30 RCMP officers set up a blockade at the checkpoint, preventing 50 residents from walking into the town. Dozens more police cars, lights on, could be seen lining streets in the town on standby.

Officers laid down a spike belt to stop anyone from attempting to drive past the blockade. That action sent the crowd of residents into a rage.

“What’s next? Tear gas?” shouted one resident.

“It’s just like Nazi Germany, just taking orders,” shouted another.

“This is the reason the U.S. has the right to bear arms,”

...new laws were enacted to make darn sure it wouldn't happen again.

IMHO, to really have teeth, the laws need to say that people who attempt to confiscate weapons from law-abiding in time of disaster are robbers and should be treated as such.

I gathered after I read the article the town was evacuated because of a flood (pretty crappy reporting if you ask me). So, the RCMP just broke into homes and helped themselves to the firearms. Did they break and enter all the homes, or just the ones foolhardy enough to have registered their guns? Story doesn’t say.

If I lived there I’d be asking about what happened to the million dollars worth of jewelry that came up missing.

They also tend to be rapacious and love wielding power over other people, and imposing their beliefs and attitudes, being cruel and sadistic to any who resist them.

There’s your answer as to why we don’t organize and fight back. They control the levers and can/will/do exact revenge.

I was one once, too. Many of us remember how the purges worked when they weren’t even in complete control of the country. Look at how they wield power now that they have all of it.

Around here, even running for school board will kill your business and invite whisper campaigns against you. Forget County Board. The last conservative chairman was accused of burning public records when he was observed using a burn barrel for his own out-of-date records. They drove a good man to resign. The Utility Board is about the last bastion for conservatives and the old stalwarts are dying off.

Look to the IRS treatment of Tea Party groups for a lesson in what happens when we organize.

"Residents of High River can be assured that firearms now in the possession of the RCMP are in safe hands,"

Sure......

So, where were you Canadas when we fought George III, ‘ey?

You are learning a lesson we learned, and now our socialist/canada commonwealth colony is being turned into— Canada.

Why don’t you come down to the US and join Us in the fight against this Statist crap? They seized your property to protect you from...what?

The guns will be returned to owners after residents provide proof of ownership.

That sounds nice, but shouldn't be necessary if what you mean by "proof of ownership" is the original bills of sale. If what you mean is that the police will keep track of which guns were taken from which residence, and the residents have to prove that they are the residents, and that is adequate proof, I'm ok with it.

Also, my perspective on this depends on the prevalence of looting in Calgary.

I also share the frustration of having this wonderful forum to share our comments but unable to find a comparable activist outlet.

It would be great if we could start a FR PAC and endorse a slate of candidates for Congress. We could dedicate our resources to getting them elected. True Conservatives who we could all agree to get behind. Forget sending any money to the GOP.

This is what Palin so successfully did in 2010 and Allen West is doing for 2014. Moveon.org has morphed onto a quasi-activist site and they carry considerable sway in leftist circles. They are united. They even get candidates they endorse to appear at their gatherings. If those losers can do it, we Conservatives can certainly do it even better.

We need to start soon before it's too late. Make it the genesis of the new Conservative movement!

Fr Pac would be good, but make it a bundling operation like EMILY’s list. Individual checks made to one candidate, by people who want to donate to him, but handed in from FR would be fairly easy to implement. Giving 5,000-10,000 at once gets a lot more attention than single donations of $25 or $100 even if they’re equal amounts.

Firearms were returned, settlements happened.

Yeah, about a year or two later, after they had been stored in steel drums under 100% humidity. Most were non functional rusted junk. Oops, my bad, so sad...

It took the NRA and serious lawsuits to get anything done.

GtG

It’s very true because that’s the way everyone in my circle is. Work hard, fish, hunt, love and enjoy life. All the while even here in our small MT community you have the leftist busy bodies who cannot stand to do anything but put their big fat noses in every ones business.

I know it’s why the 2nd amendment was written. People like us will one day get backed into a corner. But we will be armed.

On a national level though it would be nice to see a well funded Conservative movement organized to beat down the leftist thugs currently in charge.

Lets not kid ourselves. The left would murder as many people as they could to keep and increase their power if they could get away with it. Look at how much sympathy they have for the murderous ghettos they create. NONE.

What else comes to mind more recently was the searching of homes at gun point by the authorities in Watertown, MA when they looked for the Boston Bomber...
Not sure if there was a “blanket” search warrant in place - never heard if there was - but the pictures of people being hustled out of their homes at gun point was chilling....
