TODAY IN HISTORY
29 June 1950 President Truman authorized the use of US ground forces in South Korea and air attacks against North Korea. Congress also approved the callup of reserve forces for up to 21 months of active duty.
Shortly afterwards, my Father, who had graduated from St. Joseph's University earlier the same month, was called up from Inactive Reserves as a Radioman 3rd Class and assigned to the USS Borie, DD-704. The Borie served in the waters off South Korea and participated in the Hungnam Evacuation in December 1950. This operation effected the escape of thousands of South Koreans and the Marines of the 1st Marine Division after their fabled fighting withdrawal from the Chosin Reservoir.

Genuflectimus non ad principem sed ad Principem Pacis!
Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)
