I agree with what you posted except this. The media's goals are ideological - iconoclastic, leftwing, anarchic tear it all down ideological.
If they cared about selling papers and making money there would be no ideological consistency to the crap they publish.
Actually, the fomenting of discontent and then the coverage of it, and the full-blown coverage of disasters large and small, trials of pretty murderesses, and the like are what FUND their ability to spread their ideology! They have it both ways.
