One of Connecticuts gun manufacturers, PTR Industries, is departing the state in a melodramatic huff for gun-friendly South Carolina, complaining about the tightened gun safety laws enacted in Hartford by conscience-stricken legislators following the Newtown gun massacre of 20 children and 6 educators last December.
One hundred percent of our product line is illegal in Connecticut, explained John McNamara, the companys vice president for sales. They just want to collect our tax dollars on a product that they dont think is safe to own.
The sad truth, of course, is that PTR Industries and the rest of the gun industry have absolutely nothing to fear from Connecticuts tougher controls on military-style assault rifles and large-scale bullet magazines. Thats because in 2005, Congress and President George W. Bush, in shameless obeisance to the gun lobby, immunized arms manufacturers from damage suits by gunshot victims. The gun lobby had sought this protection after relatives of the eight sniper victims in Washington, D.C., won $2.5 million in damages from a rifle manufacturer.
This outrageous law, called the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, can only be envied by other industries whose products might affect public safety. Not that the estimated $30 billion gun industry cant afford liability; gun sales actually spiked during and after the national uproar about Newtown.
Gun-friendly states are courting other Connecticut arms makers. Come on down! tweeted Gov. Rick Perry of Texas. Josh Fiorini, PTR Industries chief executive, described South Carolinians hearty welcome and excitement about our product line for The Wall Street Journal: Everybody wants to talk to you. Everybody wants a gun.
Gov. Dannel Malloy of Connecticut did not quite say to PTRs executives: Dont let the door hit you on the way out. But his office succinctly explained: We decided to prioritize public safety.
Protections for abortion clinics are just fine with the NYT, including the suppression of pro-life groups.
Liberal hypocrisy on display, folks!
The New York Times is on the ropes, because nobody wants it.
Imagine the starving reporters, without a clue as to why they’re on the streets.
F’em.
Nothing outrageous about that law in the least.
Can you sue a knife maker if someone stabs you? Can you a sue a car manufacturer if someone kills your spouse in an auto accident? No, unless the product was defective in some way.
I wish Colt Arms would do the same thing
GWB did a great job there.
Can you sue planned parenthood for the death of an innocent baby? </s>
PTR Industries: Connecticut, you just made the products we sell illegal.
Connecticut: What difference does it make?
PTR Industries: So let me get this straight, you don't want our products in Connecticut, but you do want our tax dollars.
Connecticut: I think you understand now.
PTR Industries: I think you understand now why we are moving (you anti freedom loving, un Constitutional, hoplophobic, hypocrites).

Tagger: Guns kill people, pencils misspell words, cars drive drunk & spoons make you fat.
breath taking stooopidity... it's NOT fear, it's disgust!!!
LMAO! That one's going in my 'things idiot liberals say' file.
I am glad they are leaving. I hope some gun companies move to Texas.

I hope the citizens of Connecticut remember this and other things their state Government has foisted upon them when the Electrical Power is being rationed, and the Feral Urban Youths and hangers-on decide that what you have really doesn’t belong to you but deserves to be theirs.
Being Armed and able to defend themselves would really be nice at times like that. It’s too bad their government was so afraid of their citizens that they did all they could to disarm them. (It’s for the Public Safety Y’know.)
GOOD FOR THEM!!Now the question is who will be made to suffer in CT. to make up the lost revenue??????????
What in the hell sort of twisted unrelated logic is this?
Producing products in a state and paying all the state, local taxes, in addition to UIC payments, fees, property taxes, sales taxes, etc. that has deemed EVERYTHING you do is illegal and prohibits the state residents from buying anything you make has absolutely nothing to do with liability immunity. The immunity rightly now exists for ALL states.
This is a matter of fealty to a state that is willing to take your money and provide jobs for its citizens but isn't willing to provide anything for it, the reverse, in fact.
The NYT, Washington DC politicos, and CT can just suck it.
In the first Civil War the North had the upper hand because they had over four times the wealth and most of the manufacturing.
This time around, the North is pushing their manufacturing away and losing their wealth.
No.
Can you sue a liberal because you’re a victim of a crime?
Because I’d love to sue prominent liberal groups for their tireless work in destroying urban areas. I’d like to see the DNC pay for what they did to New Orleans.
It’s the evolution of dumb. They finally learned to call them magazines so they had to find a new way to mess it up.
