Has Jeb's Time Come?
Time ^ | July 1 2013 | Jon Meacham

It's one of the more interesting what-ifs of the past few decades. What would have happened if both George W. and Jeb Bush had won their gubernatorial bids in 1994? Which brother would have run for President in 2000 against Al Gore? Late in George W. Bush's second presidential term, I asked his father this question. The senior Bush shrugged, waving off the hypothetical. "Who knows?" he replied. "Didn't happen." Then, after the briefest of pauses, the 41st President added, "If Jeb wants his shot, he should have it. He's done the work, been a governor--a very fine governor, I might add--and if he wants to go for it, I hope he does."

That hope, it is safe to say, endures. No one who knows George H.W. Bush seriously doubts that the former President would like to see Jeb mount a campaign for the White House

Peter Mansbridge [ that’s his name I kid you not... I know it sounds like a false porn star name or something. After all men have peters that are a man’s bridge to a female... ] of the CBC was already floating the notion of a Jeb Bush race on election night of November 2012. The media establishment in Canada is also promoting Jeb Bush for some reason.

I like George W. Bush, and I still hope a different and better candidate will emerge.

He’s the perfect Republican candidate.

Take that as you will, just don’t believe for a second that’s a personal endorsement.

It amazes me to think about the people who get all excited, all worked up, hormones a’gushin over elections anymore.

Seems to me they don’t work so good.

We’re gonna get amnesty, like it or not.
We’re gonna get queer marriage, like it or not.
We already got Obamacare, like it or not.

The Dems/Pubbies are just like a pair of shoes, they just mirror each other.

And when you end up walking into the shitstorm, it’s not like you will do it with only one shoe on. You will be wearing both. It TAKES both to screw things up this bad!

And you will do it willingly, with all the politicians and pundits slapping each other on the back all the way.

Just watch.

By the time of the next election, if we are still here, ANY Republican who is perceived as being even a little bit different, will get slammed and attacked, labeled as a whacko extremist.

And what you end up with will be a model of monotony, mundane through and through, so middle-of-the-road he/she will have a yellow stripe down his back!

People here and elsewhere will rave about what a savior this person is, how much they will do for American politics, just about take us back to 1776 and George Washington the best thing since sliced bread blah-blah-blah yada yada yada yada yada yada... you know what I’m sayin.

They will check the box on their mail in ballots, hearts all a twitter, afaik, it’s just a play anymore. Pure theater.

I’ve been hanging in there, voting Republican, but if this clown is nominated - or even taken seriously as a candidate - I will never again vote for this party.

Good grief. I always thought “Stupid Party” was just a nickname...

If we end up with Hillary verses Bush, I am leaving the country. Or what ever is left of it.

the 41st President added, "If Jeb wants his shot, he should have it.

With all due respect to President Bush I, a very decent man and an American who served his nation in war, he's wrong. His son is not entitled to the GOP nomination and win or lose, the nation would not benefit by his entry. Enough with the Bushes, enough with GOP nominees who have nothing but contempt for the party's base and no belief in or commitment to conservative principles.
