The Egyptian Military just made a publc statement on Egyptian TV and it appears the country is close to another military coup:

In other words, do as the people want, calm this down now, or we will step in within 48 hours.

But this time the coup will be deposing an MB flunky instead of a world-champion wankathoner of a king. I wonder if they’ll imprison the MB again, as Abdul Nasser did. It would seem he got it right, as Anwar Saddat freed the MB, and was later assassinated by it.

Obama probably thinks a military “coup” is a camouflaged chevy impala....

A military coup. How imaginative. Like the one that put Air Force General Mubarak in power. My how the Arab Spring is bringing a new day of democracy to the same old sludge.

I’ve already mentioned them several times today.

Are you 100% sure they are all replaced? I know Erdogan did something like that, but he’s been in power in Turkey for more than a decade. Morsi’s only been in a year or so.

That is extremely good news; I thought I’d read something like that.

What do you consider the real issues at stake?

Read up the thread from your comment and you’ll see Morsi did not manage to remove the top generals.

What do you consider the real issues at stake?

I suspect Morsi is/was preparing a strike against Israel, quite possibly it had been green-lighted by Obama. The Egyptian military wants no part of this, at least not now, since with the trouble in Syria, Israel is going to be hypervigilant.

I believe Morsi thinks the chaos in Syria works to his advantage in a strike against Israel, but the military is of the opinion it is too big a gamble, presently.

Morsi's position became a bit more complicated with the release of a Lybian document naming Ansar al Sharia, the Muslim Brotherhood, and himself personally as involved in the attack on the Benghazi Consulate, and the subsequent death of Ambassador Stevens. I don't think that the Egyptian military was advised of this little adventure, and they are none too happy about it. I suspect they view Morsi, and the Muslim Brotherhood, ideologues all, as being too reckless to remain in power, and are secretly working with the opposition to achieve his ouster without too much fuss, soonest...

On TB2 someone posted the translation of the entire military statement. Very telling. Unfortunately I can’t bring up TB2 now, getting 404 message but I have lousy slow internet.

It’s on this thread somewhere:

http://www.timebomb2000.com/vb/showthread.php?431180-The-Egyptian-Riot-Thread-Please-post-any-info-concerning-what-s-happening-there./page7

I wanted to post it here and on the main FR live thread.

Thanks..interesting thread...I wonder is a lot of context is lost in the translations. I find the 48 hour deadline interesting..

From the mil statement it is clear (to me) that they are fully supporting the anti-Morsi crowd, and the Ikwhan (IIRC the mil. arm of the MB) are gearing up for a fight, and have already killed some protesters. I think there’s a photo of some of Morsi’s followers on the live thread, lined up with sticks in their hands.

Thanks again. I have seen a thread or two about Morsi’s and the MB’s connection to Benghazi, just haven’t had time to read it.

I hope all this comes to light and chokes the freak in the WH.

I’m still suspicious. Islamist roots do run deep in much of the Egyptian military. Look, Morsi’s in deep trouble..very unpopular. No argument there. But suppose this is all a big deception...Morsi can’t use the IB to suppress the demonstrators, so he gets the army to do it for him..the army imposes martial law..and Morsi remains in control. Everyone assume that the army isn’t doing Morsi’s bidding..

It’s not a failure yet. Wait ‘til he tries to fix it and makes things even worse and worse, and worse, and then stops talking about it. Then it’ll be a failure. That’s only just begun. Give it time, and see my next post.

True but remember "failure" is in the eyes of the beholder. He claimed Bush's 4.7% unemployment rate was the "worst economy since Herbert Hoover" yet Obama and Biden claim that they "saved the economy" by replacing the 4.7% with +7.8% unemployment.

That’s because he’s still talking about it. When he stops talking about it and trying to spin, and instead hopes people will forget about it, that’s when it’s really a failure.
