It was probably Spielberg's suggestion---he based his 'Lincoln' film on her book Team of Rivals, and was in town a few months back giving a speech of his own. He's tied in thick with the Gettysburg history crowd.

Goodwin probably was misdirected and lost since she relies heavily upon plagiarized material for her books and writings.Since she is a liberal Democrat she gets a pass upon her unethical writing credits.

If I was given a subject to write a paper on or give a speech about in college and instead went on a bunch of personal, social and political tangents while barely mentioning my subject I would get a massive F for that assignment and probably get dressed down by my professor.
