CAIRO (Reuters) - Egypt's armed forces would suspend the constitution and dissolve an Islamist-dominated parliament under a draft political roadmap to be pursued if Islamist President Mohamed Mursi and his opponents fail to reach a power-sharing agreement by Wednesday, military sources said.
The sources told Reuters the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) was still discussing details of the plan, intended to resolve a political crisis that has brought millions of protesters into the streets. The roadmap could be changed based on political developments and consultations.
Chief-of-staff General Abdel Fattah El-Sisi called in a statement on Monday for Mursi to agree within 48 hours on power-sharing with other political forces, saying the military would otherwise set out its own roadmap for the country's future.
The president rebuffed the ultimatum and the main liberal and leftist opposition alliance has refused to talk to him, demanding along with youth activists that he resign.
The sources said the military intended to install an interim council, composed mainly of civilians from different political groups and experienced technocrats, to run the country until an amended constitution was drafted within months.

The military, as this report shows, is most likely to ultimately adopt measures similar to Mubarrack. The opposition is most likely to adopt something that is more secular and democratic.
Either of these would be much, much better for U.S. interests, for peace in the Middle East, and for the Egyptians own well being than the Muslim Brotherhood's Fundamental Islam and Sharia LAw.
But, our President is all in with Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood. Soon, Mr. Barry Obamastan is going to either have to abadnon Morsi (showing his policy their for the farce it always was)...or try and prop Morsi up with US support...which would cause a very bloody civil war there, and would involve our own troops on the wrong side of the fight.

I propose that Obama go to Egypt, walk among the crowds, and give a really great speech. And then walk back through the crowd.
I just know they love him the same way our corrupt MSM says everybody loves him so it should really work out well.
They are waiting to see which side performs more be-headings so they can go with them.
Is Obama stupid enough to go to Morsi’s aid? I have a mental image of our troops refusing to fight.
I wonder how out of control Obama would have to be before our military staged a coup to restore order? The idea of FEMA inviting Russian troops onto US soil sends me into orbit.
Don’t forget the people more radical than Morsi, the Salafists, who are Al Qaeda like and growing in numbers. The secular liberals in the streets are noisy but a small part of the overall population. Yes Morsi is losing support, but in part he’s losing it to more extreme elements. Is Morsi really all that bad for US interests? He hasn’t moved to aggressively confront Israel, he hasn’t radically realigned Egyptian foreign policy. His internal policies stink, but what concern is that of ours?
Becuase of the support he is getting from Obama, he is moving along at a speed to ensure he retains that support...but far too many of his own people are not having it.
Last weekend when 14 million marched against him, the vast, vast majority were people wanting a more secular society and an end to the developing Islamic fundamentalism. Very few in those crowds represented interests that are even more fundamental than Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood.
The Egyptian military is the lynch pin in this, and I believe they are going to come down (as has been indicated by today's announcements) on the side of a much less extreme, much more secular society, much more similar to Mubarreck.
And that, along with all of those people demanding he step down, I believe is going to lead to MOrsi's neutering...and that, along with the institution of a more secular oriented governance there, will be a good thing for the future.
Sounds to me like they ought to start over.
My administration has been closely monitoring the situation in Egypt, and I know that we will be learning more tomorrow when day breaks. As the situation continues to unfold, our first concern is preventing injury or loss of life. So I want to be very clear in calling upon the Egyptian authorities to refrain from any violence against peaceful protesters.
The people of Egypt have rights that are universal. That includes the right to peaceful assembly and association, the right to free speech, and the ability to determine their own destiny. These are human rights. And the United States will stand up for them everywhere.
I also call upon the Egyptian government to reverse the actions that they’ve taken to interfere with access to the Internet, to cell phone service, and to social networks that do so much to connect people in the 21st Century.
At the same time, those protesting in the streets have the responsibility to express themselves peacefully. Violence and destruction will not lead to the reforms that they seek.
Now going forward, this moment of volatility that has to be turned into a moment of promise. The United States has a close partnership with Egypt. And we’ve cooperated on many issues, including working together to advance a more peaceful region.

The worst part is that Obama so screwed up the original uprisings in Egypt and the other Arab states that we will almost certainly get a Militarily backed strong man. Just like it was before.
Agree! Former President Hosni Mubarak might get a repreive too from some “old friends”.
It is my understanding Obama has sent F-16s and tanks already to Egypt. My guess, however, is these are already in the hands of the military. He is sending 400 US ground troops to do who the h*ll knows what. The troops are from Texas, so it is likely his way of sending a big f-you to Rick Perry and the rest of Texas.
It’s civilized when there is a rule of law agreed upon by the governed and the government. That is a CIVILization.
It’s as uncivilized as the era of warlords and “divine” kings once a country devolves into “whoever has the best weapons runes”.
