Gabby Giffords Shot a Gun for Gun Control
New York Magazine ^ | Joe Coscarelli | 7/2/2013

Posted on 07/02/2013 12:48:29 PM PDT by nickcarraway

As part of her seven-state "Rights and Responsibilities" tour, former Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords appeared at a gun range in Las Vegas and fired a weapon for the first time since she was shot in the head more than two years ago. The image is poignant, and even slightly unsettling, but serves a larger purpose: Giffords and her husband, Mark Kelly, firearm owners before and after she became a victim of gun violence herself, are out to prove that common-sense gun control and the Second Amendment can co-exist. As a spokeswoman for this concept, Giffords should be all but unassailable.

"Some might consider me an unlikely advocate for gun rights because I sustained terrible injuries in a violent shooting. But I'm a patriot, and I believe the right to bear arms is a definitive part of our American heritage," she writes in a USA Today op-ed explaining the tour and encouraging the expansion of background checks. "But when children are gunned down in their classrooms, when families are slaughtered at a movie theater, when a little girl dreaming of running for office is shot dead standing next to me in a grocery store parking lot, we have to admit what we're doing is not enough. We've all got to do more to reduce gun violence."

Goodness, there's some crappy technique ... leaning back, no cheek-weld, eyes way above the sights ...

I don't blame her ... she doesn't know any better.

Whoever is trying to teach her should be kicked in the butt ... and replaced by someone competent.

(from the article):” ..we have to admit what we’re doing is not enough. We’ve all got to do more to reduce gun violence.”

Yeah , how about starting to enforce the laws that already exist
How about aiming the laws against lawless criminals that are already on the books , instead of inventing new ones.
Start in Chicago , L.A. , Philly , N.Y. City , Boston , etc.
Don’t make lawful people into criminals as they have done elsewhere by creating unConstitutional laws .

Tactics used so far should be made illegal : such as late in the night legislation , back room politics,
passing bills without review , discussion , or debate , or without rebuttal, disallowing citizen feedback ,
or not passing emotional ‘knee jerk’ reactionary legislation that we have seen in the past.

Don't feel bad.The Gay State has a half dozen Bridgeports, all of which go 300% for the Rats every election day (each voter votes 3 times).I drive through Bridgeport regularly on the way to NYC...but I've never set foot in the city itself (if ya catch my drift).

So true. I learned my lesson when in WWII I was in infantry training. One day we had a session where we were supposed to hit a tank at 50 yds or so using a rifle grenade off an M-1. I took my shot from the shoulder and landed on my rump with my helmet over my chin. Other guys were laughing while I sat there looking dumbfounded. Should have done what other guys did by firing with the rifles butt stock wedged into the ground. As I recall I was digging my heels in.

That's probably a good thing.

"...are out to prove that common-sense gun control and the Second Amendment can co-exist."

We already have "common sense" gun control...kids and crazy people aren't supposed to have them (of course, they still get them, which goes to show how effective gun control laws are). Let's focus on crime control for a change, why don't we? It's a crime culture problem, not a gun culture problem.

Last night on the evening news, I saw Giffords shooting a handgun at this photo op in Vegas.

She had some kind of a fabric brace that covered her shoulders, and right arm.

After she fired the handgun, she was unable to “ungrip” her hand from the firearm, and trigger. She kind of swung the gun side to side. Her husband quickly “disarmed” her.

Her actions looked somewhat dangerous to me, and she did not speak during what was shown on the news. Not to sound cruel, but I think a trained chimp could’ve handled the firearm in a safer manner.

Giffords appeared unable to even lay the gun down, and let go of it on the table at the range after she discharged it.

Oh yeah....we can trust a government that has been caught listening to our phone calls and rifling through our credit card bills. What could go wrong with giving them just a little bit of gun control?

Are she and her husband really that stupid, or are they doing it for the money?

She has no clue how to shoot. Cheek needs to be on the stock, eyes aligned on the sights and keep your eyes on the front sight. That is a spray and pray shooter.

The gun grabbers will always claim that we’re not doing enough to keep guns out of the hands of the “wrong people”

Gun control will only be fully achieved when they are the only ones to decide who the “right people” are.

Of course, criminals will still have guns.

More gun registration.
that should keep track of all the guns the Govt. loses and trades to criminals.
Yes, go where the problem isn't and distract from the lack of ability to control their own weapons.

BS. She is the new James Brady- an epileptic corpse that is trotted out every time the commies want to push gun control. The only difference she can be led to where they want her to appear instead of having to be pushed.

“The right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed,”

That sure is a long way from “common sense gun control.”

Kinda like opposite ends of a spectrum.
