TRENTON — State Senate President Stephen Sweeney this morning said the latest effort to legalize gay marriage in New Jersey would succeed if it weren't for Gov. Chris Christie ordering Republican lawmakers not to support it.
Democrats are trying to sway enough Republicans to vote to override Christie's veto last year of a bill that would make same-sex marriage legal in the state. But Sweeney accused the governor of pressuring members of his party to say no.

I went to a Catholic college in Philly. Although it was liberal, not sure the NJ Italian delegation are too keen on butt munching. Of course, I graduated 12 years ago so who knows?
Sweeney, being a Democrat wants the Republicans to fall for gay marriage so that the Dems can claim that it was a *bi-partisan* vote. This is the same old sleazy trick that the Dems always pull on the Repubs. Don’t fall for it.
Sweeney knows that it is a hot potato, that is why he wants the Republicans to vote for it and why he does not want it put on the ballot. If it were put on the ballot his little lavender underwear buddies would most likely be voted down by the people. This would make them very unhappy and prone to their usual nasty tantrums. Let the Dems be known as the sodomy party. The gays are crazed and always demanding, they will keep pushing for more and more offensive social changes. It will blow up in the faces of anyone who has supported them.
