Glenn Greenwald Promises New NSA Revelations Will ‘Shock’ The World
The Inquisitor ^ | 8 hours ago

Posted on 07/02/2013 6:41:17 PM PDT by drewh

Glenn Greenwald told Fox News on Tuesday that new NSA revelations yet to be released will “shock” the world.

Greenwald, the journalist who worked in some capacity with NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden to reveal the organization’s domestic cell phone spying program PRISM, has long teased that there is more information yet to be released in the NSA scandal.

On Tuesday, he told Fox News host Eric Bolling that the “world will be shocked” by the coming revelations about the organization’s surveillance tactics, though otherwise played coy about the information.

“You’re going to have to wait along with everybody else,” Greenwald said. “I will say that there are vast programs, both domestic and international spying, that the world will be shocked to learn about, that the NSA is engaged in with no democratic accountability and that’s what driving our reporting.”

Greenwald also said that he has not been in touch with Snowden since he left Hong Kong. Even so, Greenwald said that the U.S. government isn’t really so much concerned with bringing Snowden to justice as they are with keeping controversial information from coming out.

“They don’t care about Edward Snowden at this point. He can no longer do anything that he hasn’t already done. What they care about is making an extremely negative example out of him to intimidate future whistle blowers from coming forward because they’ll think they’re going to end up like him. That’s their objective.”

Greenwald also took a moment to blast David Gregory, who controversially suggested that he should be prosecuted alongside Snowden for NSA leaks.

“Thomas Jefferson, 250 years ago, said those who most fear investigations are the ones who attack free press first,” Greenwald said. “This is what journalism is about, shining a light on what the most powerful people in the country are doing to them in the dark. So we’re going to continue to do that no matter what David Gregory and his friends say.”

So nobody has proof of life. Without it, you really can’t believe anything that comes out of this saga. Even his travelmate, Harrison, hasn’t said anything recently that I’m aware of.

Romney’s - as well as everyone else’s, calls were monitored (at least for keywords) and have been for years. The difference is who did it and what is being done with any information. Under Bush and Clinton the monitoring was likely not done domestically, we relied on our friends (most likely the Brits) for that - they would provide us info if we needed it, there was at least a little restraint. Obozo has made it clear he has no respect, will not restrain himself in any way. As it was technically feasible, this administration would create some flimsy rationale to use it and in the worst way possible.

“What would happen if it turned out Romney calls were intercepted during the election?” - PD

Of course they were intercepted. The only question is who, if anyone, heard them or saw the transcript.

Who, if anyone, looked at the campaign strategies on the Romney computers? They were accessed and recorded also.

Oh, and do we trust the NSA to tell us the truth regarding who accessed these files/recordings?

Sure makes Candy Crowley’s production of the Obama press conference transcript during the debate highly suspicious—as if she were listening to Romney prepare for the debate and anticipated his answer. She framed the question but she was expecting Romney’s answer and ready to rebut it herself since Obozo was incapable of doing so. It smelled then, but with the NSA “listening” project and Obozo’s feckless disregard of the law, it is not a leap to believe somebody inside the Obama campaign got information/intelligence illicitly.

No, the new revelation is about the technical means used to snoop...not what the snooping uncovered.

For all that Snowden claims it was possible for him and NSA analysts to do, you'd think he'd have at least made a point to collect call transcripts, e-mails, etc. of one actual person - maybe someone he doesn't like that he wants to embarass - John Bolton, Dick Cheney, etc. Yet there's none of that and despite people's fevered fantasies, I doubt you'll see any of that.

There hasn't been any evidence of any specific American targeted for anything in any of Snowden's material - the only specific people/persons are the Russian Defense minister, etc.

It sounds to me like Snowden is negotiating. First the whiney letter requesting to be able to travel. Then this threat of releasing damaging material. If he gets to travel then no release. We will know which way it goes soon.

Well for one thing, they can’t get to Glenn. He’s gay and relocated to Brazil because his partner could sponsor Glenn for a permanent resident visa but Glenn couldn’t sponsor him for a green card (up until last week’s Supreme Court decision, at least). That’s the reason Glenn gave up his law practice in New York and went into journalism full-time.

Its astonishing to realize Obama & Holder have prosecuted twice as many Americans under the Espionage Act as every previous president since Wilson COMBINED. They’d look unusually crooked to indict a journalist who’s a lock for a Pulitzer Prize this year, and it’d be for naught. Brazil would never extradite a permanent resident.

"Well for one thing, they can’t get to Glenn."

It appears they can't get to Snowden either. However, why can't an administration that has shown its lawlessness more times than we can count put on a squeeze play on for a journalist who is clearly complicit in passing classified information?

Interesting background on Greenwald though, of which I was not aware. Thanks for the information.
