Fireworks won’t be the only thing flying high over the Capitol during the Fourth of July celebration.

An American flag made of hemp, a non-psychoactive variant of marijuana, will be flown over the Capitol on July 4 for one day.

Industrial hemp–which is considered by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to be a Schedule I substance along with ecstasy and heroin–is a type of cannabis plant that cannot legally be grown in the U.S. but is legally imported and used in hundreds of products ranging from rope to clothing.

We can’t grow it but can import it. I bought some hemp rope at Walmart.

Hemp at one time was a very important product in early America, Jefferson had a large hemp operation and I think he even wrote about smoking hemp.

Until the anti-capitalists came in to power it was grown all over the country.

I do not some hemp but the government needs to get out of people’s lives.

I almost cut my hair
It happened just the other day
It was gettin’ kinda long
I could-a said, it was in my way
But I didn’t and I wonder why
I feel like letting my freak flag fly
And I feel like I owe it to someone

I thought that it was just fine until I read that it can’t be grown in the U.S. ( unless it was maybe grown at a university marijuana facility) in which case it is NOT appropriate for the 4th.

Let's call out this sly, in-our-faces scenario for what it is....."Hemping for legalization"....or, "never let a golden opportunity, even a flag on the Fourth, go to waste".

BTW, has the Great Pretender returned to DC for our country's birthday, or is he still overseas promising million$ of our tax dollar$ to third-world dictator$ ?

The first flag sewn by Betsy Ross was made of hemp. George Washington and Thomas Jefferson grew hemp. You don’t smoke it like you would marijuana. The FDA’s including it with ecstasy and heroin is a joke.

Why not?

Hemp is stronger and more durable than cotton.

Sails and rope were exclusively made of hemp until the advent of synthetic fibers. Hemp was strategic commodity from the 17 to18th century and farmers were required to grow hemp as a crop by law.

But it is legal to import it and to own it. What sense does that make?

I know that. I love my hemp grocery bags.

I still don’t see the need to fly a damn flag.

Because the original flag was made of hemp that Betsy Ross sewed. I think it is kinda neat. We are getting back to the original founders of American who grew hemp and made the flag that way. You should be proud of today and the original intent of America.
