One of the great stories of soul music was the Righteous Brothers showing up at the recording studio on the strength of their demo tape.

They were told words to the effect “That can’t be you; you’re WHITE.”

They took the name “Righteous Brothers” after that because their fellow singers called them “righteous bruthas” after hearing them sing.
