Laurel given to writer for measuring Supreme Court

July 4, 2013

Lewistown Sentinel

To the editor:

I want to compliment Mr. Clyde Bailey for his well presented letter, "Supreme Court seems to disregard Constitution" of July 2.

The Supreme Court has definitely turned political and is a far cry from what the founding fathers had in mind. The bad thing about the Supreme Court's decisions is that they are deciding on moral issues, issues that should be debated and voted on by the citizenry.

An example of the moral issues decision was the Supreme Court abortion vote which was presented by the media of the time as "U.S. Supreme Court rules in Roe v. Wade that women, as part of their constitutional right to privacy, can terminate a pregnancy during its first two trimesters."

At that point in time it opened the gates of hell for many people, not leastwise politicians such as Sen. Wendy Davis of Texas, Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Kathleen Sebelius, Mario Cuomo, Nancy Pelosi and the newest pro abortionist Rep. Allyson Schwartz, an ex-abortion clinic director.

Mrs. Schwartz is running for the elective office of governor. She owned the Elizabeth Blackwell Health Center, a Planned Parenthood clinic, where abortions were performed in Pennsylvania. There is also speculation that they referred young girls to the Gosnell clinic. When questioned about that they said:

"We have never referred to Gosnell," said the official in an email to The Weekly Standard. "Could she confirm that going all the way back to 1972, the year Gosnell first opened his clinic? The official did not immediately respond."

On July 2, 2013 a leading abortion promoting group "Emily's List made its first official foray into 2014 gubernatorial politics Thursday by formally endorsing Rep. Allyson Schwartz (D-Pa.) in her bid for Pennsylvania governor."

Our job is not to choose candidates or tell you who to vote for but as an educational group we are obligated to present facts for you to think about.

We totally agree with Mr. Bailey when he writes, "Great nations are destroyed from within. The United States appears to be headed in the direction of joining that list. Will you sit idly by and watch it happen?"

"Supreme Court seems to disregard Constitution"

Seem to? I'd say overtly and in your face to the American people. Definitely, they have way overstepped the bounds proscribed for them in the Constitution (which is why they want to disregard it). Power hungry people will do anything to garner more power to themselves.

Reining in SCOTUS would be the first thing I would do if I were elected President.

I think the best/easiest way to reign them in would be to make them lay in the beds they've made (or allowed Congress to). -- apply Kelo to them personally: instruct gov't officials to make up some value for their homes (and all physical property) and seize it via eminent domain.
-- NDAA, throw them into confinement bread & water and some private to fetch them law-books and writing utensils.
and so forth.

See how quick they change their tune when the laws are used to cut them personally.

My question is about the existing legal mechanisms for “ we, the people” to remove a SC justice when his/her ruling violates The US Constitution?

I believe that a Supreme Court justice can be removed by impeachment. Believe it can be done with the proper votes in the Senate and House. It does not need the President.
