MS:Dozens Show Support For Controversial Open Carry Law

(Corinth, MS) Dozens of Mississippians say a judge is trying to take away their freedom. A new gun law was supposed to take effect this past Monday, making it legal for people to openly carry a gun without a permit. But a Hinds County Circuit Court judge stopped the law from taking effect.

Most of the time, Elaine Vechorick has a gun tucked inside her purse. She has gone through classes and tests to get an enhanced concealed permit. It’s stronger than a regular concealed permit.

“I think it’s worth it to get an enhanced permit, you can carry it more places. Church is a good example,” said Vechorick.

She was with dozens as they stood holster to holster in Corinth showing support for a new gun law that was supposed to go into effect at the beginning of the month. The new law says a law abiding citizen doesn’t need a permit to carry a gun inside a holster. But a Hinds County Circuit Court judge put a ban on the law. Saying how it’s written opens it up for people to carry more weapons.

Rally organizer Bobby McDaniel is upset with the ban. He thinks on this Independence Holiday weekend, his freedoms are compromised.

“Disgusted, I actually got a little nauseated,” said McDaniel.

Saturday he wore an unloaded revolver on his hip for show. But unlike Vechorick, he hasn’t gone through a background check or tests to carry. He says the American and State Constitution both act as his permit.

“I am exercising my right as an American to keep and bear arms,” said McDaniel.

Monday there’s a hearing to see if the ban will stay in place or be lifted. Most of the supporters at the rally believe come next week, they for sure will be able to open carry.

State Representative, Democrat Nick Bain co-authored the bill. He hopes the ban will be lifted, but advises supporters to slow down before they start carrying without a permit.

“Err on the side of caution. Wait until a judge makes his decision,” said Bain.

Critics of the law, including some law enforcement officers believe it could turn Mississippi into the Wild West.

Just like those states that already allow open carry.

I AM THE MAIN ORGANIZER OF RALLY

Well done! Sounds like a sterling success in spite of leftist extremists to minimize it.

Every state needs constitutional carry.

The Wild West never happens when Constitutional carry is passed. In fact, statistics from places lime Chi town with stringent gun laws put the “wild west” to shame.

WILD WEST?

Their example of “Wild West” must differ from mine.

I have CWP and 40 or so of the 50(OOPS 57??) states allow me to ‘carry’ in one form or another. I would venture to say those that ‘allow’ me to carry (or possess, in my vehicle) are the safest places to be....

For example, NYC, Chicago, Washington DC, Newark, Jersey City, Baltimore, LA, SF, etc are areas where I am NOT allowed to even mention the word gun /SARC/ much less carry or transport one.

So, in essence, I am NOT allowed to carry my own protection where it is needed, while where I ‘basically’ don’t need it, it is perfectly legit.

Any of the wags and Pols ever sat down to those kind of stats?

Yet, if I were to get accosted for being in one of the wilder of the wilder areas, first question generally is “What were YOU doing in THAT neighborhood?”

The old ‘I would rather be judged by a panel of 12’ rather than ‘carried by 6’ is no longer in vogue....George Z is a perfect example.

From the article: "Saying how it’s written opens it up for people to carry more weapons."

I'm a tad confused. How is the possibility that "people carry more weapons" a grounds for delaying the effect of legislation? On whose behalf did the judge grant this injunction? Whose the plaintiff and what harm did they claim if the law was allowed to take affect? What arguments were able to overcome the presumption of legality of the legislation?

Circuit Court judges in Mississippi are elected in non-partisan elections every four years. Subdistrict 3 Judge Winston Kidd is the judge responsible for this travesty.

http://www.co.hinds.ms.us/pgs/circuit/kidd.asp

He was appointed by Governor Ronnie Musgrove (D) to serve as Hinds County Circuit Court Judge. Judge Kidd was subsequently elected to his Judicial seat on November 5, 2002. Which means he is coming up for election soon.

Open carry is an insane “flight forward” public relations blunder that will only help increase anti-gun hysteria and make defense of the 2nd Amendment more difficult. Open carry is sabotage.

Open carry seems to have worked very well to advance the restoration of Second Amendment rights in Wisconsin, Arizona, Michigan, Virgina, and Kansas.

The only place it seems to have faltered has been in California, where it was unable to stem the all out ongoing attack on Second Amendment rights.

You might check out opencarry.org for more information:

They have forums for nearly every state there.

Nailed it. “Controversial” is a label they place on anything they disagree with.
