Four men charged in a quintuple shooting that left a toddler paralyzed at a Harvey apartment complex have pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and other charges, according to court records. Jefferson Parish prosecutors charged Lashawn Davis, 20, of the Gretna area, Charlie Gumms, 18, and Davamte Robertson, 19, of Terrytown and Frankie Hookfin, 21, of Waggaman with five counts of attempted second-degree murder and aggravated criminal damage in the April 22 shooting at the Lapalco Apartments.

Sheriff's deputies think Hookfin and at least one of his co-defendants stood outside an apartment door in the 2300 block of Lapalco Boulevard and opened fire on the people inside. A 1-year-old girl was paralyzed, and a 2-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl also were injured. Two women, ages 63 and 67, were shot in their legs. Authorities surmised the shooting was retaliation for an altercation at a New Orleans bar.

Hookfin also is charged with aggravated flight, for allegedly being the getaway driver who led deputies in a chase into New Orleans, and aggravated criminal damage to property.

When the gunfire erupted, detectives and an FBI agent were at nearby Helen Cox High School waiting for a suspect to show up in an unrelated matter. The deputies saw a car fishtail out of the apartments' parking lot onto westbound Lapalco and reach speeds surpassing 100 mph, according to an arrest report. Hookfin allegedly led the officers onto Peters Road along the Harvey Canal to residential neighborhoods, at speeds in excess of
