Randy Travis In Critical Condition In TX Hospital
NBC DFW ^ | 7/8/2013

Country singer Randy Travis has been admitted to a Texas hospital and is listed in critical condition, according to his public relations firm.

The six-time Grammy winner is suffering from complications of recently acquired viral cardiomyopathy.

"Cardiomyopathy is the term for any disease of the heart muscle that interferes with the heart’s ability to pump blood with sufficient force," according to Johns Hopkins Medicine. Travis' condition, which is viral, was caused by an infection in the heart.

Travis, 54, was admitted to the hospital on Sunday.

The illness is a continuation of a tough run for the "Three Wooden Crosses" singer after a handful of recent high-profile appearances, including a performance during the Country Music Association Festival's nightly concert series.

Travis had also performed at the memorial service for slain ex-Navy SEAL Chris Kyle in February.

Travis pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated in January following his arrest last year when he was found naked after crashing his Pontiac Trans Am.

Travis was sentenced to two years of probation, fined $2000 and given a 180-day suspended jail sentence. He was required to spend at least 30 days at an alcohol treatment facility and complete 100 hours of community service.

In August 2012, he was cited after a dustup at a church in the parking lot of Prestonwood Baptist Church.

In November, Travis said through his attorney that he had put together a personal program to get sober. He had also returned to the recording studio.

Randy Travis is a talented man who has been battling personal demons for several years. I’m praying for him.

My prayers go out to him. I read this thing can take as long as 10 years to beat and it’s what killed singer Andy Gibb, viral infection of the heart.

I might be dating myself but I remember a time when Randy Travis was the biggest singer in country music. Before Garth Brooks and way before Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw, there was Randy Travis and he was a country music superstar. I figured he'd be around forever. Or forever and ever, to quote a song title of his.

Anyway, I'm surprised to hear he is only 54. I figured he'd be older than that by now. Way to young to be having these sort of problems. Especially when you have country singers who still have careers in their 70s, like Willie Nelson, Charlie Daniels and that one guy with the funny hat.

Well I hope Randy Travis gets better and puts out another album or two.

No need to comment to such stupidity....sorry if you don’t have the discernment to know the difference between a physical disease and demons.

One doesn’t have to be religious to understand what “battling personal demons” in post #3 means. Just intelligent.
