Rafael Cruz, the father of Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, invigorated the crowd during tonight’s FreedomWorks Free the People event.
Describing his own personal journey escaping Cuba and working hard to build a life for himself in the U.S., the elder Cruz noted comparisons that he believes exist between Fidel Castro’s governance and President Barack Obama’s executive actions.
Upon rising to power, he said that Castro, like Obama, spoke about hope and change. While the message sounded good at the time, it didn’t take long for socialism to take root in his home country. And he paid the price.

On behalf of Eagle Forum and the thousands of families we represent throughout the country, we urge you to ensure that the following issues are covered during tomorrow’s conference meeting on the immigration issue:
WHY HASN’T S. 744 BEEN “BLUE SLIPPED”?
The Senate Amnesty bill, S. 744, violates the “origination clause,” Article I, Section 7, Clause 1 of the United States Constitution, which states “All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills.”
Section 2102 of S. 744 requires the payment of certain taxes and forgives the payment of other taxes as a condition of receiving amnesty and other benefits. The Constitution prohibits the Senate from approving bills that raise revenue.
The Congressional Budget Office report states “enacting S. 744 would have a wide range of effects on federal revenues, including changes in collections of income and payroll taxes, certain visa fees that are classified as revenues, and various fines and penalties. Taken together, those effects would increase revenues by $459 billion over the 2014-2023 period.”
DEMAND THAT NO IMMIGRATION BILLS BE BROUGHT TO THE HOUSE FLOOR UNTIL S. 744 HAS BEEN “BLUE SLIPPED”
As long as the House regards S. 744 as a constitutionally valid bill, any bill dealing with immigration – even an “enforcement only” bill could send the two bills to a Conference Committee, and we will be stuck with whatever product emerges from the Conference Committee.
THE OBAMA ADMNISTRATION HAS PROVEN ITSELF UNWORTHY OF MORE LARGE POWER GRANTS, WHY HAND HIM HIS SIGNATURE LEGISLATIVE ACCOMPLISHMENT AND UNTOLD NEW POWERS NOW?
In light of recent scandals involving the IRS and the Justice Department and the Obama Administration’s unilateral decision to delay implementation of the ObamaCare employer mandate for purely political purposes, why would House Republicans allow any opportunity to enact the amnesty bill the Obama Administration dictated to the Senate to pass as this New York Times article notes.
During this time, Americans are far more concerned about jobs and the economy than immigration. They are leery of giving the Obama Administration more power to abuse, or enacting more border enforcement laws for the Administration to ignore and to refuse to enforce.
We respectfully request that you urge Leadership to use the weeks before the August recess to hold the Administration accountable and work to undo ObamaCare’s stranglehold on the economy, rather than to give the liberals another item on their wishlist at the American people’s expense.

We shall see. That verdict might be up to SCOTUS. There is a case that can be made, that he is a naturally born US citizen through his mother.
