Paul McCartney: They Threatened to Kill Me if I Played in Israel
inn ^ | David Lev

When rock legend Paul McCartney came to Israel in 2008, he was, at least to some extent, taking his life in his hands. Not because of Israel's sometimes precarious security situation, but because he was threatened by BDS (boycott, divest, and sanction) anti-Israel groups. “I got death threats, but I'm coming anyway,” the singer was quoted as saying by Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs researcher Adam Shay.

“I got explicit death threats, but I have no intention of surrendering. I refuse to cancel my performances in Israel,” Shay quoted McCartney as saying.

Some one’s knocking at the door.
Somebody’s ringing the bell.
Do me a favor. Call the Mossad.
Don’t let them in.

good for him

I may disagree with him on some issues, but he is not a liar or the usual liberal hypocrite- he is the definition of cool!

I just wish him and John would have collaborated on some more before he died- they had a synergistic effect on each others’ music (the sum is greater than the individual parts)

But let’s not give him any credit when he does the right thing. No sir, he’s evil. Spit on him.

Yeah but is he getting death threats because he is threatening to play Hey Jude for the ten billionth time while giving the thumbs up or because he is playing in Israel?

Wonder if this guy would be safe playing in Bergen or Oslo or Trondheim.

Probably not.

Hurrah for Paul! If he’s not going with the flow on this hot PC topic, maybe he’ll awaken in other areas.

But let’s not give him any credit when he does the right thing.

You make a good, if sarcastic, point. Ronald Reagan said "The person who agrees with you 80 percent of the time is a friend and an ally, not a 20 percent traitor."

Many conservatives no longer see it that way. Either you are 100% pure, or you are the enemy. That's why I don't think there will be any more GOP presidents.

In all seriousness, when Margaret Thatcher died I saw a conservative blog calling her a liberal because of this or that position. Insane.

The sum was greater than the parts because George Martin was writing the music.

Yeah and it’s just a coincidence that since 1969, McCartney has continued to write music and Martin hasn’t never written any music of note.

I think that he was pretty safe. Even terrorists understand what “bad PR” is. I would say that an attack on him would be bad PR of the level that caused the Crusades, the way the world works now.

George martin did write a few piano and orchestral bits here. He was a great addition musically as well as sonically. But he certainly did not write the music. There are quite a few books out there if you want to better understand what happened. Geoff Emerick’s book is very informative. He was the recordig engineer.

Paul is a great musician because he can get in the zone, stay there for quite a while, then remember what he did while he was there and finally write it all down.
