Express your Christian Belief – Get Fined $30,000

Ming Linsley, left, and Kate Baker smile after winning $30,000 from a Vermont Bed and Breakfast. The owners of the Bed-and-Breakfast made the mistake of expressing their religious beliefs to the couple.

It cost them dearly.

In Vermont – Gay rights trump Religious rights

Yesterday, I spoke with Jim Campbell from the ADF about this recent case of Christian persecution. A Bed and Breakfast expressed their religious beliefs to a same-sex couple and ended up paying $30,000 in fines.

Townhall reported on the settlement last year.

A Vermont bed and breakfast has settled a lawsuit brought by the state’s Human Rights Commission and two women who wanted to have a same-sex wedding reception on the inn’s property.

The Wildflower Inn in Lyndonville agreed to pay $10,000 to the Vermont Human Rights Commission as a civil penalty for violating Vermont’s Fair Housing and Public Accommodations Act as well as $20,000 in a charitable trust to be controlled by the couple, the Burlington Free Press reported Aug. 23.

“The Wildflower Inn has always served — and will continue to serve — everyone in our community. But no one can force us to abandon our deeply held beliefs about marriage,” owner Jim O’Reilly, a Catholic, said in a statement. “Our beliefs haven’t changed, but we do have lives to live, a family to love, a business to grow, and a community to serve.

“Small businesses like ours cannot match the limitless resources of the government and the,” O’Reilly said. “Ongoing litigation like this can cripple any small business and the livelihood of its owners, so we’re relieved to put this ordeal behind us.”

Legally speaking, if the business owners have a policy of never allowing any weddings or wedding receptions on their property would that prevent them from being sued?

I bet the gays will now call all wedding caterers until they find one that refuses service to them, and then sue that business until all businesses will have to choose between living according to their conscience or going out of business.

What do you think they've been doing?! This isn't all happening by accident ... this is a deliberate, planned attack by the liberal homo fascist agenda. This is just the beginning. They won't be happy until they've banned Christianity in this country.

They may persecute us but true Christianity will never die. And the homonazis will never be happy. Period.

Homosexual ‘marriage’ law is about forcing the citizens to support and service homosexual behavior.

>> Small business should start accepting business from the LGBT community.

The owner should follow his moral compass despite the consequences. It’s hard and likely not without distress.

Nobody says the cake has to be "tasty".

Exactly. Could also be made as a diet cake. No sugar. Use saccharin. Flavoring? Ticket said chocolate colored cake. It didn't say chocolate flavored cake.

Isn't that your signature there on the order signing off on it?

Yep... those bright green ones... you could have little rainbow Unicorns printed on them... and a huge red Biohazard symbol!

I’m wondering if a court would force a Christian business to support the “celebration” of some Satanic event or “special day”? I’d like to see how a case like that would go if brought to court, and how it would explained if the court didn’t? What would be the difference in a Christian being forced to support, through their business, a Satanic special day, and supportthe celebration of a sodomite coupling?

Amen. American Christians have become soft from having it so easy in rhis country. Now we are going to get the opportunity to decide where we would rather lay up our treasure-here on earth, where it rusts and rots, or in Heaven, where it's incorruptible.

I would be tempted to find out. Or what about forcing some non Christian business to support a Christian day or issue? I would try that myself but, where I live now, that business would be hard to find. I used to live in bay area, CA. Would have been lots of opportunity there.

If I were this fine Christian couple I would have hosted this repulsive gay affair but told them all money is upfront..... then I would do a lousy job. Then word gets out in the sodomite community not to do business with them

I would love to do it myself, but I don’t think I could bring myself to represent myself as wanting to celebrate anything in “honor” of Satan.

Couldn’t the homos then sue them on the grounds of unsatisfactory service? I still like my idea of an undercover “test case” or attempting to force, for instance, a Muslim business to provide service in support of Easter or some unambiguously Christian holiday (which is why Christmas might not work), or a Christian business in support of some Satanic celebration. I can’t imagine any but the looniest leftist judge ruling for the plantiffs in that case, which might set a precedent (I’m no lawyer, so I’m undoubtedly overlooking some point) for Christian businesses not being forced to violate their consciences.

What I meant was the opposite, try to force some wikken or muslim business to serve a Christian celebration.

It seems as though the ‘great falling away’ is upon us, does it not? We must humble ourselves before God...to remove the judgment we are under because of our disobedience to Him.

Jesus didn’t cowtow to Satan, and neither should WE.
