Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed issued a statement following the juror's verdict of not guilty in the State of Florida vs. George Zimmerman case.
Mayor Reed stated, "The genuine tragedy of the Trayvon Martin case is that a mother and father lost their son senselessly. I find it troubling that a 17-year-old cannot walk to a corner store for candy without putting his life in danger. I find it more troubling that a citizen could not see a young African-American youth without immediately concluding that he was up to no good.
While I disagree with the jury's verdict, we must respect it. This case reminds me why my number one priority as Mayor is public safety. I work every day to create a safer city where our sworn police officers are trained and equipped to effectively uphold the law, so that our residents feel secure in their neighborhoods and our diverse communities respect each other. The death of Trayvon Martin shows that we must all work harder to shed the dangerous stereotypes that can have devastating consequences for individuals, families and our society."
The six all-female jurors delivered their verdict shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday. The case was held in Sanford, Florida, where Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by Zimmerman.
The shooting and later trial brought the south Florida town into the national spotlight.
If that young black male had just gone home and not played the thug, you POS Mayor - he would be alive today. He started it and unfortunately, it ended in tragedy for him and let’s face it - George too - he has been put through 7 kinds of he** since this happened.
These people have no grasp of the facts of this case, but shoot from the emotional hip.

And do you find it "troubling" that a 36 year old white male was beaten and pushed into traffic to die by four suspected black gang members because he was wearing blue and went to the gas station... in Atlanta?
If Trayvon Martin had taken his skittles and tea and went directly to his father’s house, he would be alive today. Instead, he thought he could teach a “creepy-ass, cracker” a lesson. Unfortunately, he died for his foolishness.
I find it appalling that a slightly sub-18 yr old can believe that he has no limits.

The Honorable Mayor is stupid, I think there is “Sum Ting Wong” with where he gets his information.
Politicians shouldn’t be commenting on a jury verdict at all.

That right there is the long and the short of it.
If he had stayed on the sidewalks and walked straight to his dad’s home, nobody would given him a second look. You start wondering around in-between homes at night, especially up close, and it looks like you’re up to no good.
Trayvon thought he could use violence against George with impunity. Well, surprise surprise, that didn’t pay off did it.
